Default WVU a good bye

WVU a good bye

The double bye has been tossed around in discussions at the Garden this week about as often as Jose Reyes' thyroid issue.

Coaches, fans, scribes have all had their take, and the majority of the feedback, perhaps to the dismay of the Big East, has been negative.

But before you, too, jump on the pile, keep this in mind: Louisville, a double-bye team last year, cruised to the tournament title. And West Virginia, a twin-treat recipient this year, has quietly landed in the final, as well.

Sure, all the other big boys are long gone. Georgetown, Marquette and Notre Dame, which each had single byes, all rode the momentum of second-round wins to upset No. 1 Syracuse, No. 4 Villanova and No. 2 Pittsburgh, respectively, in those teams first games.

But the Mountaineers -- given the late time slot all week and a quarterfinal against Cincinnati -- have done their small part to maintain some semblance of order.

Listen, Georgetown is on an incredible run, and no one's been more impressive this week. But, let's face it, West Virginia doesn't get many cracks at Big East Tournament titles.

And with an opponent tonight that is playing its fourth game in as many days, the pitches don't get much more of the plate than that.

West Virginia (-3½) is the Play of the Day.
