UNION CITY - Two people were arrested yesterday on charges they were running a sports betting operation out of a local wireless phone store, police said.
The owner of 16th Street Wireless, at 1606 Bergenline Ave., Freisy Perez-Figueroa, 27, of Central Avenue in Jersey City, along with Gladys Iniguez-Ruiz, of 13th Street in Union City, were charged with promoting gambling, possession of gambling records, and maintaining a gambling resort, police said.
Police said they placed the establishment under surveillance after receiving a tip from a federal agency.
After watching Perez-Figueroa walk out of the building and get into her car yesterday, cops followed her, pulled her over, and found she had gambling slips and $7,700 cash, police said. |
