| I know i don't have the experience to be an OC, but c'mon. if your QB doesn't have 2/seconds to get a pass off, wtf are you calling plays that take 4+/seconds to develop? the Jags OC needs to be calling quick passing routes over center, and mixing them up with MJD shoving it down their throats. the Titans are swarming Garrard like mad hornets, cut him some slack? OK! that's it, i'm calling this a loss for me ... fuck me running ![]() YOU WIN STEVO!

| Collins or Young: Decision day for Titans Signs indicate today the pick will be Young By Jim Wyatt THE TENNESSEAN Justin Gage is like the rest of the Titans right now. The veteran receiver knows a change at quarterback could be in store for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. "I shouldn't say I sense it, but I think it is in the air right now,'' Gage said on Wednesday. "I am not sure how it is going to play out or what is going to go on. But as far as receivers, we have to be prepared for either quarterback.'' Plenty of signs point to a switch from starter Kerry Collins to backup Vince Young, although Coach Jeff Fisher said he wouldn't announce his decision until today, citing "competitive reasons." Things were noticeably different on Wednesday, however, when the Titans got back to work after their bye week. For the first time this season, Collins and Young were off limits to reporters. So was offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger. Fisher is no longer giving Collins the ringing endorsement he issued each week during a 0-6 start. Everything seemed to change when Titans owner Bud Adams informed the coaching staff he wants Young to start, beginning with Sunday's game. "I am not going to discuss the quarterback situation. I'll have an answer (today),'' said Fisher, indicating he hopes the Jaguars prepare for both. "I'm going to assume that as long as we can keep this thing a mystery the better chances we have. There's clearly a difference in skill sets between the two quarterbacks. That's obvious.'' Fisher declined to go into specifics about the division of first-team reps in practice. Quarterback John David Booty, signed to the practice squad Wednesday, took scout team reps that had been handled solely by Young since Patrick Ramsey was released on Oct. 3. Indications are neither Collins nor Young were informed of their status. Teammates claimed to be in the dark, saying they continued to back Collins but would offer support for Young if he gets the call. "It is a tough situation for both of them,'' tight end Bo Scaife said. "I think both are handling it great and whoever is out there we are going to support them and play hard for them. "(Young) has been waiting patiently, I know he's excited and if the chance comes I know he's going to make the best of it. I hope he's ready. Only Vince knows if he's ready. He's been looking good at practice. He looked good at training camp. Practice is different than the game." Collins has 21 consecutive starts dating back to last year, when he took over for the injured Young following the season opener. He is 108-of-197 passing this season for 1,071 yards, with five touchdowns and eight interceptions so far this season. Young got late snaps in two blowouts, going 0-for-5 with an interception. In his first three seasons, Young recorded 29 regular season starts and a record of 18-11. Whoever plays quarterback, center Kevin Mawae said the results would still depend on how the rest of the team performs. "Obviously there's some things that Vince does and Kerry doesn't. But we are not going to change everything just because one piece changes,'' Mawae said. "... I know everybody wants a quarterback change because the quarterback is one thing that can incite something, but if everybody else is doing their job everybody is better.'' | Titans' Young still has time to prove worth Adam Schefter Tuesday, November 3, 2009 | Print Entry Adam Schefter answers readers' questions nearly every day in his blog. Tuesday, he's turning his attention to the no-longer-winless Tennessee Titans. Have a query of your own? Submit it right here. Q: How encouraged should we be with Vince Young's game on Sunday? He was solid but not spectacular by any means, and Chris Johnson's not going to rush for 200 yards every week. --Pat (Austin) A: That's OK that he was solid and not spectacular, Pat. That was what he needed to be. Granted, many quarterbacks could have succeeded with Chris Johnson running the way he did -- and will. But here's the bottom line: Vince Young now is 19-11 as an NFL starting quarterback. That's a lot better than a lot of other quarterbacks. it was a good start, no doubt, and he will have more time to prove his worth and whether or not he is the long-term answer for Tennessee. Remember, he has a $4.25 million option bonus payment due in early March. Tennessee needs to know whether or not it needs to pay Young. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Did Jeff Fisher's seat just get a little cooler or was his fate sealed a long time ago? --Kyle (Bridgeport, Conn.) A: First and foremost, Kyle, Jeff Fisher is one of the top coaches in the league. Saying that, he also is one of the league's longest-tenured coaches. And if Denver can get rid of Mike Shanahan and Tampa can get rid of Jon Gruden, then Tennessee can get rid of Jeff Fisher. Do I think it will happen that way? No. Fisher is too good of a coach and has two years left on his contract that Titans owner Bud Adams is not going to want to pay off. But some other owner might. If the Titans season ends in disappointment, it's always possible that another owner could offer to take Fisher's contract off Adams' payroll. That, to me, is the only way I see Fisher not being in Tennessee next season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Sure, Tennessee is a run-first team, but how much of the weaker passing game can be put on the fact that the Titans don't have a big time receiver? --CJ (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) A: Let me ask you a question, CJ. How much of a hinderance was that to the Titans last season? They had fewer quality receivers last year than this year, and this year they're struggling more. To me, this team is not about its passing game. It's about its running game and its defense and, until Sunday against Jacksonville, both have been spotty this season. That is the bigger issue, not wide receiver. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: What's the biggest hole the Titans need to address in the offseason? --Gabe (Memphis) A: Quarterback, Gabe. But if Vince Young can prove himself this season, then that need would be solved. If he can't, then quarterback jumps to the head of the list. And beyond quarterback, it's time to replenish Tennessee's defensive line. This line this year has not gotten anywhere near the pressure it got last year, when Tennessee was dominant. Part of it is the absence of Albert Haynesworth, part of it is Kyle Vanden Bosch not getting the pressure he did last year, and part is the injuries Tennessee has had on defense this season. But all together, this team suddenly has sprung holes that few saw last season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: The Titans are currently 31st in the league in yards allowed per game but finished last season ranked seventh in that category. Can the loss of Albert Haynesworth really account for 100 yards per game? --Jovan (College Park, Md.) A: Accounts for some, Jovan, but not all. Haynesworth was a force that made everyone better -- just look at what his presence has done this season for Redskins defensive end Andre Carter. But it's hard to blame a drop from seventh to 31st strictly on one player. There were games that Haynesworth didn't play last season in which the Titans were just as effective without him. This season, they have not been for any number of reasons. They're trailing more, which causes their offense to throw the ball more, which causes them to control the ball less, which causes their defense to be on the field more, which causes more yards to be piled up and their defensive rankings to drop. | Tenny should just get rid of VY at the end of the season. They treat him like crap now and Fisher doesnt seem at all happy that VY is back at QB even though VY brought him TWO winning seasons. and Fisher has had only 6 winning seasons and 10 losing ones???? 2 of those 6 led by VY. nice Jeff. Tenny owner likes VY. That's the only reason he's still there. Otherwise they would have shipped him off just like the Bears did with Orton. Orton had a great record as a starter...something absurd...26-13 or something? But Chicago dumped him in favor of a starter with a below .500 record....and he was on a GOOD TEAM it's absurd. VY is a winner but Fisher is too stupid to realize it. |

| I think he deserves it. But hes getting the Orton treatment....the form is mediocre and has a bad game here or there, overall he's a WINNER. Notice how the rest of the team starts to perform when VY is there. Exactly what happened 3 years ago. KC has the reigns and everything is crap. VY takes over and things get better and continued that way for 2 years until KC has the reigns again. Fisher is just too dumb to realize it because he's infatuated with Kerry for whatever reason. |

| u bring up numbers when they work for your position and leave out facts when they dont. yes he is 19-11 as starter....he also played with top 6-7 running game , oline and defense during those games. getting down to brass tacks his career qb is rating is miserable as his his td to int ratio. he cannot read defenses and throws a miserable football. he is such an amazing athlete that he is somewhat able to overcome these glaring problems vs the weaker teams. vs quality teams is he out gunned mentally and physically . i have zero doubt he can be a productive nfl player...just not a qb. |
| |||
| The win over the lowly Jags didn't impress me a bit.. I still have no faith whatsoever in Vince Young....If he can get them past Arizona and/or Indianapolis i'll start thinking of him as a somewhat legit NFL QB. Doubt they can beat either of them though. Rest of their schedule is pretty soft, so, he might get 1 or 2 more Wins before he's kicked to the curb. |
