DENVER -- Pre-game notes and observations ...

* A story gaining traction nationally is that Eric Mangini fined a Browns player $1,701 for failing to pay a $3 incidental bill upon checking out of the team hotel during preseason.

It was learned this morning, per a source, that Mangini also fined another player the same amount a week earlier for failing to pay for a movie in his hotel room.

* Browns inactives: Running back James Davis, cornerback Marquis Floyd, running back Cedric Peerman, guard Rex Hadnot, offensive lineman Phil Trautwein, receiver Brian Robiskie and tight end Martin Rucker. Brett Ratliff is the third quarterback.

* An NFL scout attending the game said his team was quite impressed so far with the play of Browns rookie center Alex Mack. He said that Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams had a lot more success last week when he rushed the gap next to guard Floyd Womack than to the one next to Eric Steinbach. Mack held his own, the scout said.

The scout also was impressed with linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. "He looks a lot stronger," he said. "Looked like the Vikings gameplanned the second half to run away from Wimbley."

* The Browns are fortunate to be traveling the fewest air miles of any NFL team this year. This is their westernmost and longest trip of the season. They don't travel very far again until Dec. 20 to Kansas City.

The Browns will travel 7,554 air miles over the season, counting preseason games. Baltimore (17,156) and Cincinnati (15,506) have to fly approximately twice as many miles.

That's a nice advantage for the Browns.

* Yes, the Browns are wearing their brown pants and white jerseys.
