Final inactives still to come

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- A feel for the pre-game scene from Giants Stadium, where the Patriots visit the Jets today (1 p.m.):

Weather conditions. It is a beautiful day, sunny, clear blue skies above, with temperatures currently in the 60s and expected to rise to the low 70s by kickoff. The orange flags above the goal posts are still. Conditions shouldn't be a major factor.

Bill Belichick and NFL films. Upon arrival here at the stadium, it was interesting to see Patriots coach Bill Belichick on the field, dressed in suit and tie, being interviewed by NFL Films. The interview was related to what will likely be Belichick's final game coaching at Giants Stadium (the new stadium is next door and scheduled to open in 2010).

Officiating. John Parry is assigned to referee today's game.

Pro scouting. The Saints, Titans, Raiders and Giants are scheduled to have scouts in attendance today.

Practice squad QB Isaiah Stanback loosening up on the field. Wonder if that means he has been signed to active roster.

Also, WR Julian Edelman among those on the field loosening up in shorts & t-shirt.

No roster move with Isaiah Stanback, although he is on the trip.

Patriots receiver Wes Welker, who has been slowed by a knee injury, is inactive for today's game. Welker had been listed as questionable entering the day.

With Welker out, that likely means that rookie Julian Edelman steps into his place. Edelman, a seventh-round draft choice out of Kent State, did not play in the season-opener.

Welker had 12 receptions in the season opener against the Bills.

In addition to Welker, offensive linemen Kendall Simmons and Rich Ohnrberger and tight end Michael Matthews are the other inactive players for the Patriots.
