Thumbs up The 2009 NFL Season will kick off Thursday, Sept 10th in Pittsburgh (Steelers/Titans)

Quote:
DANA POINT, Calif. --

The Super Bowl champion Steelers will open the 2009 NFL season in Pittsburgh on Sept. 10 against the Tennessee Titans.

In announcing the opening weekend's nationally televised games, the league also said the Chicago Bears will play at Green Bay in the first Sunday night game.

The Monday night doubleheader on Sept. 14 will feature Buffalo, with Terrell Owens, at New England, with, the Patriots hope, a returning Tom Brady. That game will be followed by San Diego at Oakland.

No changes were made in the traditional Thanksgiving afternoon games, which again will be hosted by Detroit and Dallas.

The Lions go back to meeting the Packers that day, a matchup that lasted several decades on the holiday, but only happens sporadically nowadays. The Raiders will be at the Cowboys following that, and the night game will feature the New York Giants at Denver.

The Cowboys could not open their new stadium on the first weekend of the regular season because baseball's Texas Rangers are at home in their nearby ballpark. Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones indicated his team would be at home in Week 2 and a prime-time game was likely.

The opponents for all 2009 regular-season games have been determined and a complete list of each team's home and away matchups was issued today by the NFL.

The scheduling formula implemented in 2002 with realignment guarantees that all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis.

Under the formula, every team within a division plays 16 games as follows:

· Home and away against its three division opponents (6 games).

· The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (4 games).

· The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (4 games).

· Two intraconference games based on the prior year's standings (2 games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place, and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.

The official 2009 schedule, with playing dates and times, will be announced in the spring.

Man, we couldn't have asked for a better line-up, imo....We get the Rams and SF twice, and one of the away games is against Detroit...

It's not a 'soft' schedule, all things considered, but, we damn sure get a few nice breaks this year....If Ari can stay healthy, they should have a pretty good season...Better than last season i bet...

Definately

Lets cross our fingers on injuries and play ball!

Always nice when your team has done well and there is something to look forward to.

It's been so dismal here all these years.

I'm betting they have a much better regular season....Especially if they can get Boldin settled down, and in the right frame of mind...

The NFL has released its preseason schedule, featuring a Super Bowl rematch between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.

The exhibition season begins Aug. 9 in Canton, Ohio, where the Buffalo Bills will play the Tennessee Titans in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game.

The Super Bowl champion Steelers will host the Cardinals on Aug. 13 -- six months after Pittsburgh defeated Arizona 27-23 for the NFL title. The Thursday game will be on ESPN.

Also, the Dallas Cowboys will play for the first time in their new $1.1 billion stadium Aug. 21, facing the Titans. On Aug. 24, the New York Jets play at Baltimore. Jets coach Rex Ryan is the former defensive coordinator for the Ravens.

Default NFL releases full 2009 regular-season schedule

Quote:
The Dallas Cowboys will open their new $1.1 billion stadium in a nationally televised Sunday night game against the New York Giants on Sept. 20.

The NFL released its complete 2009 regular-season schedule Tuesday. The always-popular Cowboys lead all teams with six scheduled nationally televised games, even without Terrell Owens.

Reigning Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh meets division rival Baltimore twice in five weeks late in the season after they faced off in the AFC title game. They play Nov. 29 and Dec. 27.

The NFC champion Arizona Cardinals, who were edged by the Steelers in the Super Bowl, are scheduled for three national TV prime-time games: Sept. 27 at home against Indianapolis; Oct. 25 at the Giants; and Dec. 14 at San Francisco.

``I think it is a little bit like the Pro Bowl,'' coach Ken Whisenhunt said. ``We had five guys in this year because it was a sign of respect for what we are doing. And hopefully that is an indication that people are looking at us as a team maybe of interest, which hasn't necessarily been the case - on a national level is what I am saying - so that is exciting.''

On Oct. 11, the Patriots take on Denver and former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, now the Broncos' coach. New England renews its rivalry with the Colts on Nov. 15.

The NFL had already announced the opening weekend's prime-time games. The Steelers begin their title defense Thursday, Sept. 10 against the Titans, who had the league's best record in 2008 and beat the Steelers 31-14 in the 15th game of the season.

The first Monday night game features the Patriots - in what they hope is Tom Brady's return - against the Bills, in Owens' debut. Also that night, the Chargers are at Oakland as the league pays tribute to the American Football League, which would have been 50 years old in 2010. All four of those teams are original AFL franchises.

New England also plays Tampa Bay in London on Oct. 25, with the Buccaneers as the host team.

The Bears, with new quarterback Jay Cutler, are among the teams with five nationally televised games.

It was McDaniels' pursuit of then-Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel that led to Cutler's fallout with the Broncos. McDaniels will face Cassel when Denver plays the Chiefs on Dec. 6 and Jan. 3.

The computer used by the NFL generated more than 1.3 million schedules for consideration, and the league reviewed more than 3,500 complete schedules. That number was cut to 60 before the final one was determined.

Only two clubs have three-game road trips this season, down from as many as eight in the past. The Giants and Seahawks have three straight road contests.

All teams playing a Thursday game that does not follow a bye are at home the weekend before the Thursday match.
