worked at a bar many years ago with a definite distinct crowd... the jukebox was half country & western and half rock.

heard these tunes on the country side many times and never tired of them, pure classics.

this was way before country music went as mainstream as it did and heavily diluted itself. very little on the country station today has an ''edge.''

YouTube - Hank Williams Jr. - All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)

i was way more familiar with this tune than hank's far better known ''all my rowdy friends are coming over tonight.''

also, he talks of the next two performers, george ''noshow'' jones and the ''outlaw'' waylon jennings.

classic lines: ''i myself have seen my wilder days/and i have seen my name at the top of the page.''

YouTube - George Jones - Still Doing Time

a few times george jones was too fucked up to show up and perform at concerts, hence earning his ''noshow'' nickname.

YouTube - Waylon Jennings - Ain't Livin' Long Like This

i've quoted many times from this title lol... when losing a bet on heavy chalk or taking 10 points with the nets when you knew the spread should've been closer to 30, i can remember saying ''i ain't living long as a gambler making bets like this.''

one listening hint, if you add the contents between the quotation marks ''&fmt=18'' to the end of the youtube url for these or any songs, the stereo is enhanced, though it won't work for some older browsers.

I heard this on the radio this morning and it's been in my head all day. It's an oldie but a goodie.

Agreed. I'd never seen that video, which brings the perfect amount of weirdness for a kind of a weird song. Although my favorite song by him, "Everybody's Talkin'," is conventional, a lot of his stuff certainly was not-most notably one, whose title I forget, that opened up, "You're breaking my heart / You're tearing it apart / So fuck you." I can certainly relate to THAT particular sentiment, but it didn't get a lotta airplay for some reason...

I hear this song about twice a year, and didn't even know its title, having to google "sooner or later" and "save it for later."

i remember reading about how kc of kc and the sunshine band as a teen had a job working in a record store. he couldn't believe how many people would enter and want to buy a record but didn't know the title or artist, they just heard it on the radio and were impressed. they would often sing some of the song for him, hoping he would be able to locate it.

then and there, he decided as soon as his band got off the ground, people would have no problem locating the name of one of his records - he would repeat the title every few seconds lol.

i was not that much into kc or disco back then, and loved it when steve dahl blew the records up... but you gotta give kc credit, everyone knew his songs... shake your booty, keep it coming love, i'm your boogie man...

from today's distance, the odd '70s disco tune isn't all that bad.

Save it for later is probably the song. It's by The English Beat. Not a bad song (its on my Ipod).

I think TEB was on IRS records. They had a bunch of good bands in the early 80s. I know R.E.M. was with them for a while

YouTube - LOVE ALIVE ~ HEART ~ (Lyrics)

"Love Alive"

The Sky was dark this morning
When I raised my head
I stood at the window -
Darkness was my bane

Suddenly a sunbeam arc
Thrilled me to my weary heart
It was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen

I knew I had to keep my Love
Keep my Love alive
Keep my Love - Keep my Love live

Baby I want you to roll me
Hold me in your love
No more habits, promises and jive
Ever since I was a baby girl
Wanted one thing most in this world
It was to Keep My Love -
Keep My Love alive

I want to keep my Love -
Keep my Love alive
Keep my Love - keep my love alive

You're up there under the spotlight
Your silver trophy shines
With all you got, my lord!
You must get high
You need a whole lot more than money
You need more than to survive
You gotta to keep your Love
Keep your Love alive

that was a good song too Nostaw. actually i like most of their songs.

i think she wrote this one about a muscian from VanBC that she was dating back then when they were playing the club circuit in Seattle. i actually think he came to play with their band? memory is foggy ... but i do recall one of the loves of my life that i met during one of their performances

Does anyone use the word "baby" to describe a girlfriend or good looking woman anymore? I was with a friend the other day who said to his girfriend "come on baby we have to go" and it just sounded so wrong. But if it's no longer an appropriate word it went out after at least 2 generations as a common usage. "Groovy" was only a viable word in the late 60s to mid 70s.
