Default good friend of mine charged with gross misdemeanor riot

Jared Paul's omnibus pre-trial was on Tuesday, Oct 21st. The prosecution offered a plea bargain that the defense found completely unacceptable. Prosecutors called for Jared Paul to assume complete guilt for the charge of Gross Misdemeanor Riot in exchange for probation, fines, and no jail time. The deal was turned down. The defense attorney moved for an immediate dismissal based on the grounds that Jared is completely innocent and no evidence had been presented connecting him to the charge described in the State of Minnesota's complaint.

The judge denied the motion stating that the pre-trial dealt strictly with the text of the complaint. He could read nothing in it that was immediately false or contradictory, so the case could not be dismissed at that time. He did however express disappointment that two months had passed since Jared Paul's arrest and the police had yet to present the prosecution or defense with evidence to back the charge. A "contested" omnibus pre-trial date was set for February 26th which, according to the judge, was an extended amount of time given so that all police evidence could be presented and the defense was afforded ample time to examine and prepare

argh. reading this reminded me of something that happened back in Seattle in '75 during a similar situation. a kid was lying on the ground with a cop pointing a shotgun at him. the kid being worried the cops would find the weed in his pocket tried to move his hand to grab it from his shirt so he could toss it. cop shot him in the back w/the shotgun. not sure i would be able to find it on the internet as it was before it was invented ... but it happened and i heard it second-hand. these events get crazy fast, and everyone including the cops are scared ...

I was at a party a few years back in Boston. One of the guys at the party (friend of a friend) was a state trooper. He was also a member of the riot police after the Red Sox beat the Yankees.

I listened to the guy tell a story about how he broke some "drunk kids" arm with his nightstick after game seven. This asshole trooper was decked out in full body armor, apparently a few kids were teasing the troopers asking for "high fives". When one kid got to close and literally reached towards this trooper as if to give him a "high five"...the fcking a-hole trooper broke his arm.

The smile on this troopers face was like he was telling a story about banging Pam Anderson. I'll never forget how proud he was of himself. I'm still mad at myself for not giving this trooper the ol' Boston sucker punch...

you were smart not to Rod. back in '68 i got handcuffed on my wrists and ankles by six cops at a new year's party at a tavern, and they beat me senseless with their huge flashlights. judge threw the resisting arrest charge outta court and told me to sue Seattle, i passed ... no doubt they'd have killed me then.
