Default Bodog Loses Federal Appeal

Bodog Loses Federal Appeal
13-10-08

In America, Bodog Entertainment Group has lost its appeal against a District Court of Nevada ruling and is now looking at paying fines in excess of $50 million to 1st Technology LLC.

1st Technology brought the initial patent infringement case in Nevada in June of last year but Bodog failed to appear in court, which resulted in a default judgement of $46,597,849 along with the confiscation of Bodog’s domain names including Bodog.com and Bodog.net. This saw the Antigua-based online gambling provider rebrand as BodogLife.com and launch an appeal against the monetary judgement.

However, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC, has now affirmed the lower court's ruling and Bodog’s bill stands at over $50 million with interest.

'We cannot be more pleased,” said Scott Lewis, Chief Executive Officer for 1st Technology.

“Bodog has consistently tried to circumvent the United States justice system and disregarded the legitimacy of our claims against it. We now have the certainty we need to accelerate our seizure of any and all global assets to satisfy the judgment and bring fairness and respect back to Bodog's commercial dealings.

“I am also pleased that those companies operating in the US or serving US customers via the Internet are not above the law.'

Chicago-based law firm Flachsbart and Greenspoon handled the appeal for 1st Technology , which was listed under the number 2008-1132 and involved Bodog’s distribution of software used for online gaming.

'We are extremely gratified for our client that the Court of Appeals saw the merits exactly the way we did,' said Robert Greenspoon.

Step 1 - Government passes law forbidding banks from processing financial transactions for Internet Gaming Companies.

Step 2 - Government awards $50 million to company from Internet Gaming Company.

Who is this 1st Technology LLC, is it a made up government company used to extort funds from legal gambling operations? I googled them and couldn't find a website for 1st Tech.

How were they able to get awarded 50 million from Bodog?

I thought that according to the UIGEA, if you are a financial intermediary and you get caught, YOU have to pay fines to the government.
