How would the sharps here deal with a “well respected” poster who is trying to stiff you....

Hypothetic situation

Let's say that a poster who has been here 5+ years with over 5000 posts borrowed some money from you to make a wager. Let's say you helped him out without question because you thought he was a generally decent and honorable man. Let's say it is not a huge sum of money but enough to get you a half & half at the local massage parlor.

Now let's say that this happened about 6 months ago and you have heard every excuse in the book. Let's say originally he e-mailed you with “next week” or “sorry I forgot” but now when you e-mail him once a month or he ignores you. Let's say this same poster is on your MSN Messenger list and every time you message him he signs off line. Let's say you were ready to drop it but this poster mentions it in a thread every so often.

Would a true MW sharp?
A) Write the money off
B) Continue to chase him down
C) Start a thread about the situation

Rule #1. NEVER loan money to anyone and expect to get it back. I loaned money to a cousin who said he would pay me back when some property that we held jointly through an inheritance sold. The propety sold about a week later and he said he would come see me, then told me to meet him somewhere, then he quit returning my calls.

I wrote it off as a loss and I will NEVER loan him or any of his family again. Lesson Learned.

Exposing him is a different question and up to you.

Unless u are in real life friends with this person, i cannot think of a situation how u would be loaning him money? imo the situation of the loan must be known before one can accurately judge the situation.

It so easy to get loans through bank credit lines or credit cards. They are just begging people to use it. If people are asking individuals for money then that means their credit must suck!

I think these things should be kept off the board, but I agree with Capt. If you've really given him every chance, you should expose him so no one else gets burned.

Happens all the time with degenerates on these boards. You can expose al you want. It won't get you your money and they guy will still post. I have a feeling I know who it is and I know of a regular poster on this board who has stiffed before.

Write it off. Especially for a small amount.
