Cashman gets new 3-year deal

GM Brian Cashman has agreed to return to the New York Yankees , with a three-year deal keeping him with the team through the 2011 season.

Cashman, whose contract was going to expire, was rumored to be considering the Mariners' GM job but will stay in The Bronx to work under Hank and Hal Steinbrenner.

The Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1994, with Casman overseeing a youth movement that relied, ineffectively, on pitchers Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy.

The team is in transition with Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte among those who may not be with the team next year.

While Cashman has been a proponent of the team's youth movement and development from within, upcoming free agents include pitcher CC Sabathia and first baseman Mark Teixeira.

magine the contract he would of received if the yankees had
made the playoffs. i would assume that if the yankees had
won the world series this year, the new contract he would
of been awarded would of rivaled the bailout bill in magnitude.
the greatest thing for yankee haters was billy beane not getting
the ny GM job. i can only imagine how good that team would be
with him in charge, that unlimited budget, and the need to win
now rampant throughout the organization. yikes.

Cashman is a tool. Only reason he got resigned was because his last name is cool. Now I'm going to go swimming in my pool.
