Default Boiled Peanuts

Should I even try to do this at home.

Uncle swears by them. And how long once they boil are they best to eat.

It is actually difficult as Hell to do at home...Especially if you don't know how you like them already.

1st , you can't just boil them, you have to pressure cook them first, then once the shell is softened a bit, you boil them for hours in salt water...It's definitely easier to buy them, than to cook them at home.

Tell ya what...shoot me a PM with a physical addy i can send a fed-ex to, and i'll ship you a lb of the best boiled peanuts in the south....I'll send them pre-cooked and frozen, so all you'll have to do is toss them into a pot of hot water for a few minutes...

Now, keep in mind...I am originally from Maine, so, i had never even heard of a 'boiled peanut', till i was in my teens.

In fact, the idea of them disgusted me till finally one day when i was about 15 or 16, and stoned out of my mind, i finally caved in and ate some from a bag my step-father had picked up at some truck stop on 95 South.

For a few years, i had watched that idiotic hick scarf those things down. at home, in the car while driving, pretty much anywhere he could find them, and, it always grossed me out...Slimey, wet, salty peanuts?

But, i am telling you man.... Once you actually try a few, you are absolutely hooked...If you get some done right, they are the tastiest damned things in the world, besides Klondike Bars and vagina.

I've never heard of 'boiled peanuts' until I read this thread.

I had never heard of Waffle House either until I read that other thread.

I'm learning lots from reading MW this summer.

Well UNC. Grits have arrived in AZ. There didnt use to be grits at places like Denny's etc. I'm sure some places had them but i never had been anywhere and saw them.

Got em as a side dish now. I passed.

Divinity (egg whites sugar and who the hell knows)
I'm not big on it, my sis likes it a lot. The more pecans the better.
I don't even know if it is "original" to the South but I see the stuff all over when I go down there.

I agree with Unc on the boiled peanuts...done right and they are very tasty...a lady that works for me makes them occassionally and they are pretty good...she boils them for hours in water, salt and beer...
