Default Chicago Bears -3-- thursday

Not many -110s out there but this is ridiculous. Chiefs are banged up and can't afford to play their real talent. No Dorsey, no Albert, Larry Johnson will get limited carries.

Only Damon Huard can keep this close in the second half and he will have trouble just staying alive with the offensive line he will have protecting him.

Grab 1st half as well. This should be fun.

Sporty--Hope is all well with you and your family. I haven't been around a whole lot this summer but they were in my prayers.

Sayers turns 65; remembers bruising Butkus hits
Associated Press

RENO, Nev. -- Celebrating his 65th birthday on Friday, nearly 37 years after he retired from the NFL, Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers still remembers the defender who hit him the hardest.

Frank Rippon / National Football League
Gale Sayers could beat opponents in a variety of different ways.

"Dick Butkus, in practice," Sayers said about the Hall of Fame linebacker who was his teammate on the Chicago Bears.

"He came to play. He never took a day off. And it made me a better football player because I knew he was coming to get me. I had to be on alert all the time," he said.

"Deacon Jones, was a great football player. Ray Nitschke, all those people hit very, very hard. But in practice -- Dick Butkus."

Sayers, who was born in Wichita, Kan., in 1943, but grew up in Omaha, Neb., said he still works out four days a week and doesn't feel 65.

"I feel 45," he told KKOH Radio in Reno on Friday.

Sayers was in Reno to help raise money at a celebrity golf tournament for a Reno woman, Evelyn Mount, who collects food year-round to help provide Thanksgiving dinners for the needy. He said he had three role models in his life, the most important being his father.

"My older brother was my second role model and (longtime Bears coach) George Halas was my third role model. All those people had a great influence on my life," he said.

When Sayers left the University of Kansas after the 1964 season, the Kansas City Chiefs made him the No. 1 draft pick in the AFL and the Chicago Bears chose him first in the NFL draft.

"People thought I was going to go with the Kansas City Chiefs. (Chiefs owner) Lamar Hunt had billions of dollars at that time and they thought I would go there," Sayers said.

"But I thought if I was going to better myself as a football player, I had to play the best. And I felt at that time, the best football was being played in the National Football League," he said.

"Going to Chicago and meeting George Halas was the best thing that ever happened to me. He was a great, great individual and a great mentor of mine, great motivator, a super individual."

CHICAGO - QB Kyle Orton is expected to start with Rex Grossman also playing in the

getting the starting nod. Smith plans to play the first team the entire first

Chiefs will be lucky to win 8/games this year, and that includes pre-season ...

daaa Bears will beat them with defense alone, Rob Gould will probably nail a few FG's, and if Orten or Sexy Rexy get lucky an sling a TD so much the better ... i'm takin -3 as well.

.... and when they go to Seattle next week, now that's something else. Hawk's receiving corps is healthy and there's a whole new line-up of running backs

Be careful on those hawks this year star..in my estimation they have both a bottom five receiving and running back core.

they will have a good defense and qb for sure but thank goodness 4 u they play in a joke of a division.

Looking ahead to Saturday, i'm going with over 33.5 SF/OAK. Battle of the bay should be highly competitive. They put up 47 in last years preseason tilt. May lean to SF getting points also. Martz is the new OC in SF and besides just scoping preseason talent the mans ego won't let him be happy with just playing. He has to win at everything. He should keep the pressure on and keep fiiring. I just hope the players can execute it.

agree that the running backs are an unknown, that's for sure, they're all new except for Mo Morris - 4.5 Yds per Att.

the receivers tho are the same corp that beat the skins and cowboys the last 2/playoff seasons (Deion Branch - 14/Yds per Recp, Nate Burleson - 14/Yds per Recp, Bobby Engram 12/Yds per Recp, and Ben Obomanu - 15/Yds per Recp). look like pretty decent stats to me?

true dat about their division tho, Robin ... it suck rocks

only thing really worrying me about this season is their schedule ...

they play 8 teams with winning records, actually 9 considering we play the Cards twice? I might add that SIX of those teams were in the playoffs this past year, with 4 of them being division champs (in BOLD). We play the Pats (SNF), Skins, Packers, Eagles, @ Giants, @ Bucs, Cards (twice) & @ Dallas

what i'm bankin on this year is if they do win the division again (duke it out w/the Rams or Cards), and in the playoffs at least they wont have to face Favre in frigid Green Bay (he's beat them their last 2/appearances there [Bears beat them once], and then he failed to win the NFC championship game? ).

Do the Pats come out hammering the 1H tonight to take out some of the anguish of the SB loss? I'm playing it as such. -2.5
