If 4 guys in dark suits and sunglasses show up at my door, and i'm never heard from again, at least i'll know why.

In all seriousness, I am flattered and honored that you would feel my words are worthy of "page one". If I had known, perhaps I would have tried to be more poignant, or at least have better grammar. As any regular readers of my rants can attest, a spelling or a literary class would certainly do me some good.

But that was an immediate response, because just hearing the name of Senator Kyl makes my blood pressure go up to dangerous levels. I thought his party was an advocate of limited government, free markets , entrepreneurship ( yes, i spell checked that one),and personal responsibility? The hypocrisy makes me want to throw up.

I could write a book on all the serious problems associated with his policies, but why bother when you can read Jefferson or Bastiat instead.

To ask the Senator a very simplified question, why is it ok to risk money in the hope of making more on the price speculation of Orange Juice or Coffee, a 5-1 shot in the 8th race at Belmont, or buy a roll of scratch-off lottery tickets at the supermarket, but yet, in my home, I cannot plunk down a few bucks on a golfer on a sunday as i relax after dinner and watch the PGA tour, or cannot make an educated investment on a futures commodity such as who will win the UEFA Champions league, or the NFC North?

As an American Citizen, I should be given the right to seek greatness as long as it is not at the expense of someone else's liberty and rights. I am supposed to be granted the pursuit of Happiness. Well risk-taking makes me happy. It's not just the "action" per sey, but the whole process of investigating sports market prices and offering, researching the intangibles, and then watching it unfold in dramatic fashion, as only a sporting event can truly do. I have experienced great triumphs and payoffs, and also heart wrenching agonizing defeats ( Villareal '06 always comes to mind). But what these simpletons never understand, is that while the $ comes and goes, a particular teams triumphs and defeats during a futures wager, is remembered for a lifetime. It is, truly art.

I am a true sports fan. I love to watch games, and i love to compete in games. And anyone who is going to spend so many hours of his day, watching and competing, better attempt to make some $ from it, because the bills need to get paid, and we all have to eat. There is nothing more insulting than having a highly paid sports league executive or sports journalist try to demean us as bad for the games. We have as much passion for these games as they do, but we don't get a big paycheck at the end of the week from the league office or the parent company of our Newspaper or TV Station. We, in the true American spirit, risk our own money, to try to make money on our passions as fans. Not to mention poker, which i love to play, but that will be for another writing.

America was founded by risk takers. The great explorers of the 15th and 16th century risked unknown peril, to see what was out there past the horizon. While some were government funded, many explorers risked there own money on ships and crew, to try to obtain things they did not have. Our founders of this great nation risked certain hanging, to try to create a government ruled by the citizenry, and not a monarch. Life essentially is full of risks and rewards, good times and bad, triumphs and tragedies, and gambling is simply a microcosm of life itself.

America was created with the idea that ANYONE, regardless of their name, heritage, or wealth, could have the opportunity to prosper, instead of being born into a life of serfdom and servitude, just because of who their parents were. ( Unfortunately, this did not apply to all , based on racial origin, but we can elaborate on that in another thread).

As I write this, a perfect example of my freedoms being taken from me due to Sen. Kyl and his cronies unfold. I have a handful of pro golfers i enjoy betting on before the start of a PGA Tour event. Obviously, since most events have 150 players competing, odds on individual golfers are very generous, and make for a nice risk/reward scenario. But the places i can gamble now, only offer some golfers and not every one ( offering a field bet for all the "obscures" and "off form"). Victor Chandler is a respected, long time bookmaker in Gibraltar, and they are one of the few places that give odds on every single golfer in the field. I had an account there for 5 years, and have nothing but good things to say about their customer service. Due to the pressure of the Justice Department, and slimeballs like Catherine Hanaway, legitimate bookmakers like Victor Chandler had to close the accounts of their American Customers.

One of my golfers that i like to bet is Jason Bohn. Not offered anywhere this week at my outlets, he was offered this week at Victor Chandler at 175-1.
He as of right now, leads the Wachovia Championship at -8.

So you see Sen. Kyl, you have robbed me. Because whether or not he wins is irrelevant. It would have been a fun weekend of Golf viewing, action, tension, and ultimately glory or defeat. These are things that make me happy, this is what brings me pleasure. I'm sure that someone like yourself, a pampered intellectual elitist, looks down on that as a waste of time, stupid, boorish, or perhaps as a supposed religious man, you view that as immoral, or an affront against God? ( I'm pretty sure God has no problem with a wager.) But you know, that's why liberty is supposed to be granted to all American citizens, and that's why the Bill of Rights was enacted, so that while there are people like you find my way of life immoral, or unproductive, I, as a free Adult American citizen , IS NOT HARRASED, OR IMPRISONED, OR STOLEN FROM WHILE I PURSUE THE THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY WHILE NOT INTERFERING WITH THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS.

I have read a lot of Thomas Jefferson lately, I suggest that Senator. Kyl do the same.
