McDermott sponsors Internet gambling tax legislation

By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jim McDermott says a tax on Internet gambling could generate $8 billion to $42 billion in revenue in its first 10 years.

The figures come from an analysis prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers that McDermott provided to all members of Congress.

The Seattle Democrat introduced the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act.

McDermott says attempts to ban Internet gambling have been ineffective and his approach would protect consumers and subject the revenue to taxation.

i'm no authority, but i just can't see internet gambling being repealed w/o the GOV being able to regulate & tax it ... i think it's the only argument that can rebut the indian casinos who've been bribing everyone. if the representatives can go back to their constituents and say "see, we got more money for our district", then they'll vote in favor of it ...

Yeah, i'm still trying to hold out a glimmer of hope that somehow, by some miracle, this shit gets repealed eventually..
