Default Brock Lesnar will make his UFC debut

Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will make his UFC debut on February 2nd, at the UFC 81 Pay-per-view from Las Vegas, when he faces former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. The PPV, which is being held on Superbowl weekend, is generally one of UFC's bigger events of the year (the other being their New Year's Weekend PPV).

Lesnar left World Wrestling Entertainment following Wrestlemania 20 on March 14, 2004, to pursue a career in the National Football League. When that didn't pan out, Lesnar wrestled sporadically in Japan and engaged in talks with WWE, but never returned to the company, before setting his sights on a career in MMA. Lesnar, has one Mixed Martial Arts fight under his belt, a June 2, 2007 win over Min Soo Kim on a K-1 show. That fight took only 1:09, as Lesnar took Kim down and forced him to submit to a series of strikes.

UFC has made a big deal over Lesnar signing with the company, and his fight with Mir is going to be a featured bout on the PPV. Frank Mir, who has an MMA record of 10-3, was the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion in 2004 when a motorcycle accident sidelined him for well over a year. Since his return in 2006, he has had mixed results in UFC, going 2-2 since coming back. After a 1:09 loss to Brandon Vera in November of last year, Mir defeated Antoni Hardonk in 1:17 of the first round this past August.

Exactly. They sign Brock to a big money deal and he's going to lose his first UFC match? Brock knows scripted matches when he sees them, and he'll do the job when it's time, but his first match isn't that time.

Brock will get dominated here... UFC has brought him in to be embarassed and Mir will do to him what he did to Tank Abbott in 2003. Obviously Mir has had trouble since his motorcycle injury but this fight has been made to expose the WWE wrestlers and make a joke of them. Brock was a great D-1 wrestling champion but he will have a ton of trouble with the BJJ of Mir.

UFC without Fedor and with Dana White's attitude are making me sick. I really hope somebody can come along and make a competing company !

Do you see this fight being over very quickly like I do? Mir will demolish him IMO.

Frankly...When Stephan Bonnar is -400 over ANYONE in this day and age, in THAT division, then we know we're being fed garbage. Stephan Bonnar should not be a favorite to ANYONE that should be on that stage. Dana keeps shoving his manufactured stars down our throats and its costing him fans. The last show was pathetic compared to what it could have been with the quality fighters out there..

Tell me I'm wrong Oddessa, but couldn't the quality be picked up a little out there?

Iron.

Honestly the athletes aren't the same yet. We are starting to get more D-1 Champion wrestlers and such but it is going to take some time to build up the talent base. People forget this was bar fighting just a few years ago. It's a catch 22 for me as I look forward to the days of having top not athletes but I know the money will rot away this sport as it may already be doing.

I always felt there are easily 200+ College Wrestlling All Americans in DIV I to III that could walk onto TUF every year and be standouts. Thats 200 out of a pool 88 AAs in DIV I , 88 in DII, and 88 in D III. 10 weight classes x 8 AAs per weight. An dthen theres another 34 per weight that qualified that are probly animals and could hold their own.

Thing is, most these guys are getting solid eduactions on wrestling scholarship and dont need to be fighters startiung at 3k and 3k three time a year. So yes, the talent pool is small ad weak. And the level of talent btwn the top guy and the 5-10th guy at most weights is huge in UFC.

I feel the same. I just think guys like Lesnar who take an extended time off after college are wishing on a star when they think they can pick this sport up at 30+ years old. Couture was able to do it but the sport now and in 1995 is night and day.

I am one of the biggest UFC fans you'll ever meet but the shows bore me a lot more than before. Guys I like to see fight now are few and far between as there just not enough BJ Penns, Clay Guidas, Tyson Griffins, and for that matter Forrest Griffins on the main shows.

Mir +140 right now at 5Dimes and +160 at Sportsbook...

Number should be flip flopped or more IMO.

Dana White is going to try and make an example out of Lesnar like he did Tank Abbott.

I think Dana stands to earn more if Lesnar wins.
