Anyone here play poker in Atlantic City casinos?

This is so fuckin nuts, i'm still having a hard time putting my mind around it.

My friend went to AC to play in a WPT tourney, tried to pay them the entry fee w/a $10k cashier check, and the casino wouldn't accept it? So he had to hop on a plane an fly back home.

WTF?!? It's not like he's trying to buy a product like a car he's going to drive off the lot, he's buying a fuckin seat in tourney that he'll be at a few days most likely, and even if he wins, they can hold the prize money until his cashier check clears.

What fuckin morons!

Anyone here know if this is standard policy at these fucked-up money grubbing casinos?

If he cashes he can let the check clear. If he busts, he can make sure it bounces. This is like the after dark western union scam.

i play in AC; however, i take cash - so i am not sure on the rules w/ cashier checks. most of the tellers can't understand English - maybe they thought it was a personal check?

The casinos don't make the decisions about what they will accept. It's all up to the CCC. If they wouldn't take the check, you can be 100% sure it was because they aren't allowed to.

Why didn't your boy head to a bank to cash the check? AC may be a dump but there are plenty of legit banks around town.

This was clearly the Borgata, it is the only casino with a WPT event, their Summer Open just ended.

Agree with drunkguy. ACC has nothing to offer except a relatively good walk on the boardwalk or the occasional good fight.

i still don't understand why a competent manager didn't just approve it ... fuck, they pay you w/a check, wtf not take a cashier check? i'd lay even money Jesus or Negreanu pay w/a personal check ...

what sucks is that my friend was on the bubble of the final table at WSOP this year, and walked w/roughly half a mil. he told the stupid fucks that and they just stared at him like deer looking in headlights ...gawd i miss the old days when people had brains & balls.

still, i woulda took cash like GC. at WSOP i was wandering around w/a few $k in my pocket w/o a 2nd thought ... it's Vegas for cryin out loud. little old ladies are packin a few $k in quarters in their purses

I will agree that you can see the occasional awesome fight down there and the arena is pretty decent. taylor-pavlik next weekend should be a good fight
