DAY: 3 (Officially known as Day 1C)

BIG NEWS: The field increased to a total of 4,583 players on the third of four starting days at the $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker main event Sunday. Organizers said Day 3 had 1,751 entrants, compared to 1,287 on Friday and 1,545 on Saturday. The field most likely will not reach the record 8,773 of last year.

STUD OF THE DAY: After roughly four hours of play, Chad Brown was the days chip leader at 58,200 after starting the day with 20,000. Brown said he won a key hand holding the queen and seven of diamonds with a flop of an ace, deuce, and eight with two diamonds. The turn card was a fifth diamond, giving him a flush. A second player moved all-in, which Brown called. "The other player had a 10-high flush, drawing dead, and I won a big pot," he said.

BUSTED OUT: Poker pros Greg Raymer, Phil Laak, Phil Ivey, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Andy Bloch and Men "The Master" Nguyen; actresses Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Tilly; slugger Jose Canseco, boxer Antonio Tarver and rap star Nelly.

POKER TALK: Set: Three of a kind, when a player's two hole cards have already made a pair. Jennifer Tilly made a set of kings when her pocket pair of kings was matched by another king on the flop. This is different from "trips," where one hole card matches a pair on the board. Tilly actually made a full house when a second ace came on the board, giving her three kings and two aces, but managed not to lose her whole stack when another person had "aces-full," or three aces and another pair. "My goal today is just to make it to the second day," Tilly said of her narrow escape.

UP NEXT: On Monday, the final of four starting groups will play 12 hours of poker to prepare for the second round, which starts Tuesday.
