She's gotten fame and fortune like no other LPGA player other than the record-setting Annika Sorenstam, yet Wie has won a grand total of...zero tournaments. No majors. No little ones. Nada, zilch, donut, goose-egg.

In February, Wie played her first tournament as an LPGA Tour member, and she resembled the Wie of a few years ago when she was regularily in contention. The Wie of the past two years was an unhappy Wie, an unhealthy Wie. Physically, her wrist was injured and she over-compensated for that, causing A) soreness elsewhere and B) mental fragileness.

But the new Michelle, all 19 years old of her, was back, and she almost won the LPGAopening tournament in her home state of Hawaii. But tied for the lead starting the final day, once again she found a way to not play well, and found a way to take second place, which was a good payday yes, but still no title.

Just like old times? Yes, and so were the excuses. She refused to own up to the fact that she couldn't come up with her "A" game in yet another final round.

She always says "the putts didn't drop" instead of "I couldn't make the putts in the final round when the title was on the line," as if it was the ball to blame, or the putter. Or her drives "wouldn't stay in the fairway" instead of "I kept missing fairways".

Until she changes that line of thinking, accepts responsibility, she's never going to fulfill her great talent and become a true champion.

Some great players aren't mentally cut out for it. We've seen it in tennis and golf over the years. Barry Bonds was a perennial choke with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the playoffs. So was Alex Rodriguez. They both eventually had some post-season success though, after many years of being booed by their home fans for their post-season choking.

Hopefully, Michelle won't have to turn to the same substance as those ballplayers did. All she has to do is accept responsibility for her choking and take the blame instead of blaming the ball, the club, the wind, the rough, the greens, the temperature, the sun, the rain, the water, or her wrist.

I know shit about golf, but, the more i read about Wie, the more she is sounding like the Kournikova of the LPGA...

Quote:
Honolulu's Michelle Wie bogeyed three holes on the back nine en route a 1-over-par 73 today in the final round of the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International at Papago Golf Course.

Wie, playing in her 49th LPGA tournament and second as a Tour member, finished tied for 57th at 8-over 296 and earned $3,989.

Karrie Webb shot a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke victory in the J Golf LPGA International, her first win on the tour in two years. The 34-year-old Australian earned her 36th career LPGA Tour title, finishing at 14-under 274.

Wie got off to a good starts with birdies on the par-5 No. 6 and par-4 No. 7 to make the turn at 2 under.

But she had consecutive bogeys at the par-4 No. 12 and par-3 No. 13 to go to even par. She bogeyed the par-4 No. 16.

Wie was unable to shoot par or better in any of her rounds this week. She shot 73-76-74 on the first three days.

The Kraft Nabisco Championship is next for Wie. It starts next Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. It will be Wie's fifth start at the LPGA major, but first since 2006. She has finished third, fourth, 14th and ninth — when she played in the final group as a 13-year-old.

The first three rounds of that tournament will be shown on ESPN2, with the final round (April 5) on CBS.

You got THAT right (except for the degree of attractiveness)! Even Aly-sheep-a has apparently thrown in the towel.

At the end of the day she is only 18. She still has time to have a very successful career.

You know, i am pretty sure i heard her mention on CBS a few weeks ago, that she had just recently discovered ATM, and was enjoying the time away from golf a bit, getting familiar with the various ATM techniques..

That could have something to do with this shoddy showing at the Phoenix tourney i suppose...

Didn't the article mention something about her performing 2 or 3 DP or DA's as well??

That might look cool on highlights, but, man, that has got to put a crimp in a girls game...

It's semantics, to a degree, but when it comes to the volatile management soap opera involving agent-killing Michelle Wie, a precise use of terms is always a boon.

According to an informed source familiar with the family's new deal, Wie's much-ballyhooed move to management giant IMG was borne of necessity, not personal choice.

Put more bluntly, Wie left for IMG because she was fired by her former management firm, the William Morris Agency.

Wie last week formally announced that she had signed on with IMG, which represents several high-powered sports clients, especially in golf, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, Annika Sorenstam and Tiger Woods. According to the highly placed source, the migration began when William Morris Agency last fall declined to sign Wie to another in a series of one-year contracts, which is part of the standard WMA protocol.

Even Hollywood celebs have one-year deals with the agency, because of the volatility in the industry. Today's A-list celeb is tomorrow's Celebrity Apprentice, a rule that makes sense in the athletic arena, too. However, even though the agency declined to sign Wie to an extension, her WMA agent elected to continue personally counseling the Wie family.

That is, until the agency learned that the Wies were negotiating with a sports-drink manufacturer for an endorsement deal behind WMA's back. At that point, any ties were quickly severed for good and Wie turned to IMG, the source said. IMG made background calls to industry officials before agreeing to represent the star-crossed former phenom from Hawaii, who hasn't won as a professional.

At IMG, she will be managed by her fourth different agent since turning pro shortly before her 16th birthday. Now 19, she is playing this week on the LPGA after earning her card last year at Qualifying School. The photogenic Wie originally considered signing with IMG at age 15, but went with WMA because of their potentially bigger crossover appeal beyond golf.

Given the debacle that the bumbling Wies have made of their professional circumstances by alienating a series of players, highly regarded caddies and capable agents, they need all the guidance -- and tough love -- that IMG can muster.

The winner hands down in the LPGA, is Anna Rawson. More leggy than Wie, and cuter than both. I'd put up a pic but I don't know how. I bet SNG can and will though.
