anyone been watching this new series, "Ice Road Truckers"?

Cray shit these guys have to deal with...

I can see me trying it now...I'd be bailing out of the truck in a white-out, and hauling ass away from it, "IT'S GONNE SINK, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!"...

Screw all that shit...i don't even like driving on wet roads here in Fla... Much less some friggin Arctic, man-made 'ice road' in the middle of nowhere...

Just started a minute ago...

Modern Marvels : Distilleries 2.
Airs on Wednesday June 27 01:00 PM

It's an art. It's a science. It's a marriage of vapor and water. From the elite to the illegal, the banned, to the celebrated, the distillation of spirits is a 50 billion dollar a year business. We will visit brandy, liqueur, moonshine, and absinthe distilleries to see how this magic is done. A trip to the Christian Brothers Distillery in northern California will reveal the secrets of how brandy is made and in the Deep South we observe a working moonshine still. Then it's off to France, where we visit the Courvoisier Cognac distillery and at the Jade Absinthe Distillery we see how this controversial drink is made. Includes expert commentary and historical perspective given by Bon Appetit's Anthony Dias Blue.

Thumbs up

History channel is currently running episodes entitled “The States” which are ~10-min excerpts of facts and interesting tidbits on American States…entertaining, educational and recommended viewing/recording.

I was really looking forward to this new series, 'Ice Road Truckers', but, it's been a big letdown so far, imo.

Main problem is, i just can't stand the main drivers... Especially the 'polar bear' assclown... dude is just obnoxiously full of shit, and annoying.

Really though, none of the people they show are interesting at all, imo.. It's easy to see why they have this job though...nobody wants them around them, so the ice road is perfect...lol

Was hoping this would be as interesting as Deadliest Catch, but, it's not even in the same league..

I was happy to see this series end, thinking it would be off the air, and the History Channel would put some good programs on in it's place.

No such friggin luck...Now the repeats are playing every friggin day, and even in the early mornings...Thats usually the best time to watch the damn network, imo..

What a disappointment of a series...I hope if they bring it back next year, they at least get people involved that you don't hope to see fall through the ice.

By that last show, i had a deep, sincere hatred for the main guy...that fuckin idiot 'polar bear'...

Didn't view much of this ice-trucker series since what I did see didn't interest me...much like that dog-fighting series.

The Modern Marvels series is still the best history channel programming IMO.

Yeah, i've mellowed quite a bit too the past 3 - 4 years..

It is still fun to pop in occasionally, and watch other people make asses of themselves though..

And stipping down to their skivies, and sweating....

the men behind outlawing weed were hearst and dupont:

from wikipedia.org

DuPont and William Randolph Hearst

The decision of the United States Congress to pass the 1937 Marihuana Tax Act was based on hearings[1], reports[13] and in part on testimony derived from articles in newspapers owned by William Randolph Hearst, who had significant financial interests in the timber industry, which manufactured his newsprint.[14]

According to a book published in 1985 by the marijuana activist Jack Herer had Dupont played a large role in the criminalization of cannabis. In 1938, DuPont patented the processes for creating plastics from coal and oil and a new process for creating paper from wood pulp. If hemp would have been largely exploited and also become a commercial success, it would have likely been used to make paper and plastic, and may have hurt DuPont’s profits. Andrew Mellon of the Mellon Bank was DuPont's chief financial backer and was also the Secretary of Treasury under the Hoover administration. In 1931, Mellon appointed Harry J. Anslinger, his nephew-in-law, as the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (FBN), where Anslinger stayed until 1962.[15] It must, however, be noted that no such commercial success for hemp happened in the following decades in other countries where cultivation of hemp continued to bee legal.

Hemp was a relatively easy target because factories already had made large investments in equipment to handle cotton, wool, and linen, but there were relatively small investments in hemp production. There was also a misconception hemp had an intoxicating effect because it has the same active substance, THC, which is in potent marijuana strains; however, hemp only has minimal amount of THC when compared to recreational marijuana strains.

pretty ironic, that the Hearst daughter and grandaughter turned out to be fuck-up drug addicts...
