Thumbs up Pacman" Jones' may have finally worn out his welcome with the Titans

Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones' may have finally worn out his welcome with the Tennessee Titans.

Jones has had one legal problem after another since the Titans drafted him in April 2005. He has kept his job because of his talent and the fact the Titans haven't had enough salary cap room to replace him.
Now Las Vegas police are investigating the latest incident - a Feb. 19 triple shooting that left one man paralyzed - and Jones has become a public relations nightmare who might be too costly to keep.

At the NFL Combine on Friday, Titans coach Jeff Fisher tried to deflect questions about Jones.

"Once we're able to gather the facts on this one, we'll be able to address his future and those other types of things," he said.

The Titans are leaving the investigation of the shooting at the Minxx Gentleman's Club and Lounge to the Las Vegas police, who said in an affidavit last week that they had seized $81,000 in dollar bills they believed Jones brought to the club.

The club's co-owner, Robert Susnar, has led the charge against Jones, saying that the gunman suspected of shooting two bouncers and a customer arrived and left with Jones. Susnar was not at the club when the shooting happened, but said he learned what happened from his staff.

Police have not commented since the affidavit was issued and won't say more about the case until they have new information. No suspects have been named and no one has been charged in the case.

Jones has not commented publicly since the shooting. His attorneys say Jones spoke to Las Vegas police hours after the shooting and was allowed to return home to Atlanta. He then hired attorney Manny Arora of the Atlanta law firm of Garland, Samuel and Loeb, P.C., which has represented top athletes, including Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis in 2000.

The Titans are currently in a more flexible position than in the past - they can now afford to let him go even if they can't find a team willing to take him via trade. Before signing any of their restricted free agents, they have an estimated $36 million in salary cap space.

Free agency starts Friday, and cornerback already was going to be a top target for a team trying to improve the NFL's worst defense, with Nate Clements at the top of the list.

They have drafted a cornerback in each of the past six drafts, and have studied the position strongly at the combine, where general manager Mike Reinfeldt said teams can never have enough good cornerbacks.

"With Adam Jones, we'll continue to monitor that and it may impact what we do. It's important that we have the information and take everything into consideration," Reinfeldt said.

This is the eighth time Jones has been in trouble and the police have been involved; he has been arrested three times. Charges from a Nashville nightclub incident in July 2005 were dismissed in March 2006. A judge dismissed a simple assault charge for spitting on a woman on Feb. 1.

But Jones could risk having his expungement revoked for an arrest on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges in Murfreesboro from last August. A judge agreed to expunge the charges in January if he stayed out of trouble until July 5.

The Rutherford County district attorney general, who was out of the office last week, did not return a phone message left by The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Fans have blistered radio airwaves and online forums since news broke about the Las Vegas incident. Many fans want Jones released, which reportedly would cost the Titans $5.4 million against the salary cap this year.

On Monday night, WTVF-TV aired a wire-tapped phone conversation from a drug investigation in which one of Jones' acquaintances talks about the player's drug use, gambling on college football and not taking football seriously.

"You know, I was talkin' to (Jones) the other day about smokin', and he was like 'Man, if I didn't smoke I couldn't take all the stress that I'm dealing with right now,"' said Darryl Moore, who faces charges including conspiracy and possession of cocaine and marijuana for resale.

In the same investigation, police confiscated a 2004 Cadillac XLT with "PAC-MAN" embroidered in the front seats. Jones said he had loaned the car to Moore for use in a rap video, and he bought the car back at auction.

Susnar, the club co-owner, gave dozens of interviews last week implicating Jones but did not return a telephone message Tuesday. The Titans declined to comment on the wiretap conversations.

Jones is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Fayetteville, Ga., later this month on charges of obstructing police during an incident last February, according to Fayetteville police chief Steve Heaton.

Heaton said last night that subpoenas had been issued for Jones in felony and misdemeanor obstruction cases, which are scheduled to be heard within two weeks.

"One of our officers was involved in a traffic stop with him, and after Pacman and others ran into a home, there was a physical altercation between him and the officer, and he was involved in that. He was arrested for that," Heaton said. "I think any time we have somebody who fights with an officer, it is a pretty serious matter."

WTF, this guy is out of control. I'll never understand why some professional athletes put themselves in the position of trouble with the law when they could mind their business and ride the gravytrain indefinitely. Plain stupid.

Pacman said he could pass NFL drug test

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - When Adam "Pacman" Jones got out of his Corvette while a SWAT team served a search warrant at his Georgia home last year, a drug investigator said the sports car reeked of marijuana.

As officers questioned him, the Tennessee Titans' cornerback acknowledged he couldn't pass a drug screen for another week or two. But Jones said he would be ready to pass it when the NFL tests him, according to the police report of March 23, 2006.

Jones has drawn police interest at least 10 times since the Titans made him their top draft pick in 2005. He now has the NFL's attention, too.

On Thursday, NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed Jones' behavior is being reviewed under the league's personal conduct policy.

Jones' most recent brush with police was at a Las Vegas strip club where three people were shot and one man paralyzed Feb. 19. This week, it became public that he is charged with another felony in another case in Georgia last year, which prompted the search for drugs at the home he bought for his mother.

The Titans, waiting for Las Vegas police to conclude their investigation, again declined to comment Thursday on the latest reports in Georgia involving their best defensive player.

Atlanta attorney Manny Arora said Jones has not been convicted despite being accused repeatedly, because he has done nothing wrong in any of the incidents.

"No matter how the media may want to paint it, nobody gets that lucky," Arora said. "He's just made some poor decisions with the people he's associated with, and they're trying to drag him down."

Jones was charged with possession of marijuana after being arrested in Fayette County, just south of Atlanta. That misdemeanor charge was dismissed in January, although his mother, Deborah Jones, and a friend were convicted. The prosecutor said Thursday the friend spent some time in jail.

Capt. Mike Pruitt, head of Fayette County's drug task force, didn't find out about the dismissal until Wednesday when reports of the arrests first surfaced. The prosecutor said the charge was dismissed because no marijuana was found on or near Jones.

Pruitt said they also found no marijuana in the Corvette but the car's interior smelled of smoke. He said Jones admitted smoking in the car while driving down from Nashville.

"I don't know what NFL policy is. It doesn't concern me," Pruitt told The Associated Press on Thursday. "But I asked him why would you take your livelihood and the money you make playing in the NFL and throw it away for some stupid marijuana? Can you answer that for me? I don't understand why you would do that,"

"He says, "We know when we're going to be tested. We know months in advance when we're going to be tested. I stop using two months ahead of time."'

The drug task force obtained the search warrant because of heavy traffic at the house and because Jones was arrested Feb. 6, 2006, in Fayetteville. An officer patrolling noticed a car parked in the road for a few minutes, then approached the car to see what they were doing.

Jones and the people with him ran into the nearby house. Police followed and an argument turned physical. Police said Thursday Jones threw a punch at an officer before taken to the ground and handcuffed. He was charged with a felony count of obstruction and two misdemeanors of obstructing police.

Since being drafted, Jones has been arrested five times, and all but the obstruction charges in Fayetteville have been dismissed. Las Vegas police interviewed him about the triple shooting, but he was allowed to return home to Georgia.

I do agree w/Slippery tho in that he wont be cut by the Titans, too damned good.

The thing that pisses me off is that all these fecking showboaters & scumbags go through life w/o any problems whatsoever, and then the true warriors of football like Ron Springs and Kenny Easly get crapped on by life ...

Sounds like the Titans may not have to do anything with him..

Several NFL owners believe that Commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Adam "Pacman" Jones for a year following an April 3 meeting. Jones is facing possible felony and misdemeanor charges in Las Vegas, as recommended Monday by the police, for his role in a February brawl and shooting at a strip club. He has been questioned by police in 10 separate incidents since being drafted by the Titans in 2005.

Adam “Pacman” Jones talked about his meeting Tuesday with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, apologized for his actions and promised that he has learned some difficult lessons in an interview with former NFL star Deion Sanders that aired in part on the NFL Network Wednesday.

Quote:
Jones, who is facing a suspension from the league over a string of off-field incidents, also said he considers himself a target in Nashville because of his appearance and his early holdout, and stated that he hasn’t gotten a fair shake from the media.

“I’ve got some things I need to apologize for,” Jones said. “I apologize to the NFL for the publicity they’re getting. I apologize to the Tennessee Titans for the negative publicity I’ve brought to the team. I apologize to my teammates for letting them down. I just pray to God that when this is over with, I just can be a normal player. I don’t want to say a normal player, but just be one of the guys and enjoy myself on the football field.”

Woman: Jones punched her at strip club

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A woman is seeking an arrest warrant against suspended Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, claiming he punched her at an Atlanta strip club.

Fulton County Magistrate Court officals told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Wanda S. Jackson asked for the warrant after a Jan. 3 altercation at the Body Tap Strip Club.

Jackson, an attorney, says she was in the club's office when an angry Jones accused managers of stealing his money and bracelet.

Jackson said Jones lunged at her numerous times and then "sucker punched" her in the left eye.

Jackson did not immediately return a phone message requesting comment. Jones' attorney Manny Arora said no warrant has been issued against Jones.

Last month Jones pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge related to a strip club shooting in Las Vegas that left one man paralyzed.

Jones has been arrested six times since being drafted sixth overall in 2005, including two arrests in Georgia in 2006 that the Titans did not learn about until 2007. Jones was suspended for the 2007 season by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in April.

Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has simplified his representation, hiring his two attorneys as his agents.
Nashville-based attorney Worrick Robinson confirmed Wednesday that Jones signed the contract last month for Robinson and Atlanta-based Manny Arora to act as his agents.

Jones previously had been represented by Michael Huyghue, now commissioner of the United Football League.

Arora and Robinson have been helping Jones with both the Titans and the NFL over the past year, including his suspension for the 2007 season because of his off-field conduct. They met with the Titans last month to discuss Jones' future with the team.

But Jones, the sixth pick overall in the 2005 draft, must first be reinstated to the league before the Titans are expected to try and trade him. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said before the Super Bowl that he is disappointed with Jones' decision making and indicated Jones' suspension might continue.

"If he needs more time to understand what we expect of him, then I'll accommodate that," Goodell said Feb. 1.

Jones is under contract with the Titans for three years.

Robinson has been a certified sports agent with the NFLPA since 1998, currently is the agent for Chiefs defensive tackle DeMarcus Tyler and had represented former University of Tennessee receiver Eric Parker.

Arora, who did not return a telephone message left by The Associated Press, was certified by the NFLPA last fall as an agent.

ESPN.com reports that Pacman Jones wants to be traded to Dallas so badly that he’s willing to work out a compromise. This would be that he’d give the Titans his $1.2 million performance bonus back, in exchange for Tennessee to not demand that he give them back his $1.275 signing bonus.

Talks over the last few days have been slowed by this problem, with the Titans wanting the Cowboys to pay them at least a portion of the money they gave Pacman. However, if they accept this deal with Jones, it will no longer be an issue.

Then the only thing left to work out would be the compensation. Right now, the Titans want a fourth rounder for this year and a fifth or sixth rounder for next offseason’s draft. While the Cowboys remain reluctant to pay this, you’d have to figure that the two sides will agree on something, as Tennessee wants Jones off their team and Dallas wants him to become a playmaker. The Titans could still keep him, but thats very unlikely.
