Default Canadian banks and foreign checks

Anybody know how to cash a foreign check at Canadian banks? Seems like a lot of banks in Canada refuse any check from any international company.

It's like the check has to be from a Canadian financial institution. Don't know what it's like in the U.S.

Tell them they need to send it on collection. The bank sends the cheque to the bank it's drawn on and requests a draft drawn on a Canadian bank. It's a fairly common procedure.

GKM, has it correct. You need to ask them to send it out for collection. The process, depending on where the check is drawn, will take up to 4 weeks.
