They had several chances to win that game but they blew it the D played great but O played like shit and when they did move the ball they just gave it back with penalties. They still had a chance to win but they missed a short 39 yard fg. The killer was the end of the game when they had the ball near the 50 and got like 3 penalties in a row and went back to there own 27.

Their offensive effort was lousy, they really could not pass the ball, and when Rix threw it he was way off Playing teams like Fla state drive me crazy when they go into their thug mode and starting lighting up with penalties, along with a noted lack of concentration at times I'm sick of these guys being highly regarded-- their program has a lot of suspect guys

You see why the ACC went a-raiding. FSU will be a periphery of the Top 25 program in a very few years, and they'll stay there for a long time. Once Bowden calls it quits, no good coach will be willing to come to town; see UNC post-Smith, UCLA post-Wooden and any number of examples of a coach who made and defined a program for a long time leaving. Duke basketball will be like that, too, in about 15 years.

The problem isnt the kicker its the coach, when you play for Field Goals they can be missed, why not try for the TD and not have to worry about an 19yrd old kicking a big FG??? 1st and 10 at the Mia 30 after a fumble, Bowden went run for 3, run for 3, run for 2 and kick a missed FG. Why not try at least 1 pass there and maybe 2 passes?? He was setting up for the FG the whole time and missed again. Watch the tape of last years loss and it was the exact same thing, he settled for the FG and missed as well.

Shoebox, If Chris Rix was your QB, would you feel comfortable throwing the ball when already in FG range? You can look back at it and say why not play for 7, but the bottom line is the risk was far to great in this case. If Bowden had USC's offense, then obviously go for the TD. Rix threw into coverage so many times in this game and was lucky on at least a half dozen plays not to get picked. That was an easy kick and there is no excuse for a solid kicker (which he is) to miss that. Bowden felt if he got 3, that his defense could win the game. Bowden was playing his strengths and not letting his weakness (Rix) lose the game. I don't see how you can question this strategy after watching the game. How many yards did FSU get all night?

What game were you watching??? Fla St COULD NOT RUN THE BALL! They had I think 39 yrds on 24 carries at one point in the game, but he continued to run the ball 3 times in a row and go 3 and out 5 straight series! Both TD's were set up by Rix passes, one was actually a TD pass. I would agree with you if they showed any success on the ground, BUT THEY COULDNT GAIN A YRD ON THE GROUND. Midway thru the 3rd Q Fla st threw a total of 11 passes, when they averaged 38 passes a game in there 10 wins. I have no problem with that if you can move the chains on the ground, but if you cant you have to take some shots. They have missed 5 game winning FG's against the canes last 13 years, maybe we shouldnt rely on a kicker???

shoebox is right. Once again Bowden was literally afraid to win. Played not to lose and of course lost. No brainer that you go for the TD/first down with a pass on one of those plays. With their kicking record and the time left in the game. Three straight runs. Did not want a first down.

chris at olympic the scene after the game was amazing. I had to park at Calder racetrack and walk to the stadium...then after the game, when walking back to the parking lot, the band people of fsu were thrown at, made fun of, and were abused. I never seen at atmosphere like that-and probably will not ever again. that rivalry is awesome. wide right was the chant until about 7am at south beach.
