Default the lakers are clueless

let me get this right:

1. you get rid of the 2nd greatest coach in nba history
2. you going to sign the most selfish and overated player in the nba to multi-million dollar deal who just might be spending 7-10 in the big house next year.....
3.your going to trade the best player in nba to the heat for an okay player or 1st round pick, a complete stiff and a druggie who if he gets busted again is out of the league...

jerry west must be laughing his ass off in memphis

Mitch Kupchak ain't no Jerry West. Jerry Buss should have given West the bucks and respect he deserved. Instead, he's now got a second-rate GM running the show.

i get the impression that what caused the problem with west staying with the lakers was west's relationship with phil jackson. one can only imagine what sort of problems this caused for ownership with no easy resolution. but you are right reno, jerry west is certainly the best NBA GM of our era. keeping him would of been prudent, but the lakers would of got destroyed in the media and in the arena of public opinion if they kept him and lost phil jackson.

Sad but true. This pretty much says it all.

Let me get this right, from somebody who watches these Laker games:

1) Shaq is getting up in age for a high profile athlete, and never keeps himself in basketball shape anymore. He weighs more than 350 pounds, and his body figures to start breaking down more. I doubt he will ever have a completely healthy season again. If they can get top value for him, they might as well trade him while they have the chance.

2) Phil Jackson barely coached the team for the last few years, with his worst job this year, because the triangle was not the ideal offense for the team to run. He is a top coach, but he was leaving no matter what this year, saying Kobe forced him out seems a little of a stretch, though their might be some element of truth to that assertion.

3) Kobe is 25 years old, and has likely 10 great years in front of him. Heaven forbid they might actually rebuild the team around a great player that is still in the PRIME of his career.

Jerry West is obviously a better GM than Kupchak, but it seemed like his health was a problem when he left. He seems revitalized now, but I doubt Buss could have got him back.
