Default We Gamblers Are a Strange Lot

I went with a friend to a small casino a couple of days ago and after blowing about 300 bucks playing $25 a hand blackjack we decided to leave and get some dinner. I suggested a steakhouse nearby to which my friend replied "are you kidding the average meal there is about 25 bucks."

So true.

Another situation I used to find myself in was, after a night on the town where we spent $100 to $150 each, my buddies and I would drive a couple of extra miles on Sunday morning just to save a buck on brunch.

Very true Hartley

I've eaten at plenty of fine restaurants without looking at prices...but for some reason when I get to a Mcdonalds or Popeye's Chicken, I try to order the combo or meal that gives me best value to save a buck

Its actually pretty sad.

All too often gamblers find a way to have "gambling money" but never seem to have it for anything else (except maybe strippers, booze or whores).

Seem to like staying at the cheapest hotels, gorging themselves sick on the cheapest meals (preferably buffets), drinking the cheapest beer, looking to buy a racing program for half price (or not at all saving the $2), not enjoying other non-gambling things. Constantly whining about things being too expensive. Driving miles to find the gas station with the cheapest gas. Getting their kids cheap gifts and clothes. Never giving to charity and so on.

Not everyone of course.

So true Sheba,
I hate to sound like JJG but I think that the great man once (or 1000 times) said that the vast majority of gamblers are scum. Tough to disagree with.

LOL... So true!

I'm happy and willing to pay 50 bucks to bet 500.00 but will spend considerable time in the market deciding if spending the extra 17cents for a better name-brand can of peas is worth it...

I see it all the time guys betting lets say $50 a game and in a bad week and lose $400 and they think nothing of it and then when they go browsing for example in a golf store and see a shirt for $35 they start ranting and raving "this is too expensive, they are out of their mind charging this type of money, no way am I buying that, ect, ect and then they think nothing of putting $50 on a game .

It certainly makes gambling less enjoyable when you start comparing "blow money" chips to real dollars. I have definitely had bad moments watching what might have been a prime rib roast picked up by a dealer. During one visit I went shopping and found these great hand puppets to bring home to my kids @ $25 each. I showed my husband while he was playing BJ and he said $50 for puppets?!?! I impulsively covered 2 spots with green chips, played both hands and won, and said.. free puppets! The dealer thought it was hilarious. I don't know what comes over prople.. lol.. I'm a lot like Frank with the can of peas the rest of the time.

A good friend of mine (who is a gambler of course) bet 3 dimes on a football game. We were inside his house watching a game on a big screen with all the expensive liquour you could think of. While watching the game I went to the rest room and I was told "not to forget to turn off the lights" because it might reflect his electric bill.
