| Alec, as long as I have been posting I have not heard of one instance of Cascade cancelling a wager. I know they have not cancelled bad lines. There was a big discussion here over a year ago about this policy, and how much I support it. So, wouldn't you have to hear of them not paying a wager they made to say they "can't" do that ??? I am missing the logic here...

| cecil -- Let me try to explain my logic. Firstly, I think that by having the rule about past posting Cascade shows that they don't believe in honoring all and every wager accepted themselves. Otherwise, what is the rule for? All it does is creating controversy. Secondly, even without that rule in place, do you really believe that if, say, Cascade forgets to take a match off the board after it is finished and accepts hundreds of bets on it, it will honor them? I know I have no proof, but I simply can't see any book doing this. OK, I understand that this is not what happened in BTJ's case and my hypothetical situation may never occur at all, but you have to agree that if Casacade cannot pay in this situation all other past posting cases become a judgment call, it is not “we accept the bet - we pay the bet no matter what” anymore. I like that Cascade try not to cancel bad lines and past posted bets, but I feel like they can't do it when all the other books do it differently. I am sure that you remember Big Jerk vs. Cascade case from not so long ago. And I believe that your position was: “it's not a black and white case”. Don't you think you are being inconsistent now? Because in my opinion BTJ's and Big Jerk's cases are basically identical. In both cases Cascade was saying, "We would've paid you, had you won. Now you lost, so pay us", when almost every other Caribbean book wouldn't pay in such situations. The only difference of these two cases is that in Big Jerk's cases he was the one holding the money and in BTJ's case it is Cascade. That's why the outcomes of these two cases are so different, by the way. Lastly, could you logically explain how, when a customer says to a book, "Here is your rule, give me my money back", a book can reply, "Yeah, but you took a shot and you knew you would've been paid, had you won, so we won't honor our rule"? |
