Default Getting in shape - help! =)

In the mess hall thread Peckle mentioned cleaning out the cupboards, which is a great idea. It doesn't work that well for me because of having teenagers around a lot, so my strategy is to buy decent snack stuff for me.. lo-fat popcorn, etc., and try to keep the junk food to the things they like that I can live without.
I'm serious this time!!!!!

I'm not sure how serious you are about it....

That's what I recommend. There are various types of diets...you can replace any of those meals with something more "tasty"

PM me if you need more help.

I think I am going to join Weight Watchers. There is a meeting nearby, and I think it will help to having that commitment of knowing I have to weigh-in every week. Plus their website has tons of recipes and tips..
I meant to go last night and forgot all about it.. doh! So next Wednesday.
In the meantime, I will clean out my cupboards and start psyching myself up. Also I re-thought the junk food for teenagers deal.. They get enough of that outside the home, for one thing.
It shouldn't be too difficult to work walking into my schedule either, and my dog would be thrilled.
Easton, how do you feel about the "body for life" program? Just curious..

It is very easy to lose weight.

Count the calories-and work that body.

I have forgotten the exact number-but for anyone to lose any weight you have to be below your weight*20(about) per day in calorie "input".
Look at WHAT you are eating-and how much of it.Do the maths and make sure you stay BELOW the critical amount of calories each day-and youŽll lose weight.

The more you excercise-the more you can eat.Best thing is to skip breakfast, just drink coffee, and take a long walk. That will burn fat,no doubt.(a round of golf is the best way to acchieve all this IMO)

Be aware of the "qiuck" stuff like potatoes and BREAD.Skip candy, chips and butter all together.

It worked for me-it will work for anyone.I lost 20 kilos during an eight month stretch.(donŽt know what that will amount to in lbs,but almost 40 I guess).

It takes some willpower at first, but then youŽll get the hang of it-and it wonŽt be a struggle no more.

So far (1 day..lol) Weight Watchers is pretty easy. They use a point system for calculating what you eat. I received a booklet with many common foods listed and how many points they "cost". For items not on the list we have a sliding calculator deal... line up the dietary fiber vs calories and the amount of points shows up in another little box. Pretty nifty.
There is a very good recipe for a vegetable soup that is "free", meaning, no points squandered. I ate so much of it yesterday (all of it - lol) that I was afraid I'd founder, but I survived.
Coffee is no longer a milky, sugary treat.. more like morning medicine, but no big deal.
Ahead and Easton, it sounds as though you both took the sensible approach by committing to a change of lifestyle.. that's awesome! I hope I can do the same.

fishhead,

Just don't include fallacies like "Celery causes cancer" and you'll be ok.

You'll need to be a licensed nutrionist to get that book published though.

I remember reading something years ago about celery containing toxins, so just did a search for the hell of it. I thought this was a pretty interesting article on the subject.

Like everything else....you'll find the same amount of research (actually more in this case) that says that Celery PREVENTS cancer...

I don't believe either side because I know that we haven't figured out cancer yet.
