Default Philadelphia Eagles and the salary cap

According to John Clayton as of March 11 they were 15 million under the cap.
What on Earth are they waiting for. They easily could have resigned Douglas or sign KGB to an offer sheet the Packers cant match, cause they are only 3 mill under.
Even had they signed an expensive RDE they still would have enough money left to get either Price or Boston or whoever they like.
I dont get it.
But at least my Bills are active

I've wondered the same thing about the Jets. The Jets say they're stockpiling money so they'll be able to sign Pennington and Abraham next year. Maybe the Eags are in a similar spot. But it's also possible that teams are finally wising up to the fact that most FAs, even including those that re-sign with their own team, tend to be busts, especially the first year after they land that big contract. I was horrified when the Jets dumped Aaron Glenn, Marcus Coleman and Ryan Young last year, but it didn't hurt them at all. Hoping the same happens this year with Coles, Thomas and Hall.

The Eagles have made an offer to KGB, but his agent is waiting to see how much Green Bay will offer. Philly doesn't want to put themselves in a position that Baltimore is in or Washington or the Rams. They don't want to "cap themselves out".

"Don't want to cap themselves out"

Have to disagree strongly.

Eagle owners long time skin flints, in fact hired Reid cause he was the cheapest they could find, qb coach came for no money, and they just got lucky.

Last season they were $9 mil under the cap and poised for a super bowl run, could have signed a good wr, saved their linebacker corp and/or cb, but didn't!!!

Dumping Douglas after 12 sacks just another nail in their coffin.

Lurie will never let them win the super one, he is strictly a maximizer of the point of least expenditures for maximum fan interest.

Side note: Jets got taken to the cleaners and 2 years of defections will show next year. Oline seriously diminished including player and coach losses, rb Martin past his prime, coles was a fantastic young wr, they may lose the top kick returner in the league right at a point when special teams are taking added significance. Can curtis conway save them? tuna's talent drained.

I may be whistling past the graveyard, but I think the Jets may survive again. Coles never did anything with Testaverde at QB, so it's plausible that his sudden emergence might really have been due to Pennington; the guy was unbelievably accurate last year, and having the ball thrown perfectly time after time is going to make any receiver look good. Conway looks like a cheap plug-in, but he's never had a top QB throwing to him; if he surprises, Jets look mighty good, with some cap money to spend and a low-to-mid first-rounder on top of that.

OG Thomas will be missed for his youth, but the Jets were down on his finesse style; they want a brawle at that spot. I did think they could have made a pitch for Mo Collins, or even gotten Ryan Young back and moved Fabini inside. Also, Jets matched the Skins' offer for Morton, the KR you mention, so they won't be losing him. And I think they're in good shape at RB even if Martin regresses (Lamont Jordan has been outstanding in relief, and team is committed to giving Morton some PT at RB as well).

I believe the offer to Morton will be going to league review, as the offer isn't totally matching, something about option years not being the same.

You may be right about Coles, but just as possible young wr blossomed, 4th year, always thought he was a major talent on the horizon. A big reason their team was great down the stretch, he has the speed to match with Moss's speed.

Conway is a true talent, that is not in dispute, however the aging process is catching up, 30, and his injuries are what caused the chargers to dump him. He rarely played at full speed for them and closed the season once again injured.

Linebackers getting old.

Jordon is an average back, maybe a bit better than that. Good for a change up, but lets see what happens when the line weakens.

At least they got rid of cb Damian Robinson!!!

2 playoff appearances secured in the last game, in the last minute, lightening won't strike 3 times running.

Don't know why the Oilers dumped Young, he was injured most of the year. 3 great olineman lost in 2 years, and the great oline coach in Muir.

Who do you like in the opener CZ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Washington Redskins season ticket holder Decides Mortons Fate
Kick returner-running back Chad Morton was formally introduced Wednesday as the fourth Jets player to move to the Redskins this offseason, joining kicker John Hall, guard Randy Thomas and receiver Laveranues Coles.
Morton was awarded to the Redskins on Monday by an arbitrator who ruled that the Jets did not fully match Washington's five-year, $8 million offer to the restricted free agent. The arbitrator, Richard Bloch, is a Redskins season-ticket holder, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
The ruling was another setback for the Jets, whose general manager, Terry Bradway, last month chided Redskins owner Dan Snyder for overpaying for free agents. If nothing else, it will make the Sept. 4 Jets-Redskins season opener even more interesting.
"If there's bitterness between management-level people, that's something they need to talk about,'' Spurrier said.
Morton and the Redskins were pleasantly surprised by the ruling. Morton wanted to play in Washington because offensive coordinator Hue Jackson -- his former position coach at USC -- promised to the opportunity to play running back.
I don't think it will have an effect on the game. The Jets' GM may be pissed, but he doesn't play. The players are unlikely to begrudge their former mates, and in fact must be overjoyed when any owner pushes the salary envelope.
What's outrageous is that a Redskins' fan got this case. The Jets were virtually assured by the NFL that they didn't have to worry about the clause they didn't match because it was illegal. The Redskins also committed a minor illegality in the Coles signing, but the league apparently brushed that off.
I still maintain that, unless it turns out that it was Coles making Pennington look good instead of the other way around, these offseason losses won't hurt the Jets all that much. PR Moss (2 TDs last year, same as Morton) should be able to step in at KR. But I'm disappointed at their complete lack of activity lately, and at their inability to attend to details on the Morton contract. A good draft (figure OLB Boss Bailey with one of their two 1st-rounders) and all is forgotten; a poor draft and serious regression by Pennington, and the Jets curse is back.
