but i was quizzed on this question.

an odd number plus an odd number equal an even number.
an even mumber and an even number equal an even number.
an odd number and an even number equal an odd number.

so wouldn't the chances of the total score of a game landing on an even number be greater/

you're missing the fourth case, an even plus an odd equals an odd.

this evens things out but in a sport like football with a small number of total scores an odd totaled final is more likely because if the game is tied before the last score the last score will make the total odd.

I would think that the chances of an odd numbered total would be slightly greater than an even number, because a tie can't happen and all ties would end up an even number.

In football, the most common margins of victory, 3 and 7, will always yield on odd total.
