Default why would you want to be an agent...

can someone please help me see the logic i am missing...

my buddy is getting his ducks in a row for football season. he's hooked up with a guy who is supposed to be a pretty big (credit) agent for one of the top books in the biz...this guy is giving him the 'standard' deal: 10% of net losses with a make-up figure, and full responsibility for the players!! well my buddy's so fired up, he went out and got 30 (small/medium) ready to go...

the thing i don't understand is this...why would anyone be willing to settle for only 10% of the upside (with a red figure, mind you), and be 100% responsible for the downside (if the guy can't/won't pay)?! this is crazy to me!!

for that number of players, i think it makes much more sense to take the calls himself and take 100% of the risk and reward!! now i know there are a ton of agents out there who have been around forever and make a shitload of $$$, so obviously the system works...but i still just can't see it...if there is a fat-cat agent out there with a couple hundred customers, why in hell wouldn't they just take the calls themselves, and book to their own sheet?! they're already doing the p/c work and running around, as well as taking all the risk if the guy walks...so why not get paid better for what they're already doing anyway...why not?!

Your friend is getting robbed.

10% hot and cold,no red,the agent keeps 10% every week his players lose.

1-10 player 25% sheet

10-20 players 30% sheet

20-30 players 35% sheet

Over 30 players - negotiable up to 50% sheet

All sheets above have "red" or "makeup" figures.

It is also important when the deal is made for all parties involved to have "hard cap" limits for each player.

It is important for the agent to know his players well.

Will there be "movers" sneaking in here to bury his sheet?

On a 30 player sheet will 25 small players be able to overcome the larger bets of the 5 largest players?

The agent and bookmaker must go over each and every player on the sheet and determine betting limits per game by sport and overall "hard cap" balances available to insure it is a profitable relationship for both that will hopefully get better as they go down the road.

If they dont take the time to do this and the sheet gets "buried" off the hop the runner will lose interest and worse may not even honor his commitment to financially stand behind each player on his sheet.

No no no, if you want to be a legit bookie, you have to do two things:

1) Get a local union to insure you in case you get broken, if you know what I mean when I say "union"

2) Go to a local university and hang out there at lunch on a Friday noon hour......you will get more action from those degenerate student deadbeats than you will from anyone else......and you don't need to worry about any big players taking you for a ride.
