Default Biggest sports markets...

TA's thread on action points got me to thinking about which markets are the biggest for betting sports. Now, mind you I think all of them are very small compaired to, say, NASDAQ or NYSE, but the fact remains if you found a way of consistantly beating a market, which ones are large enough to withstand a beating and for how much?

Here's my list and how much I think I could take out before the books would have to change something to deter me. When I say change something, I mean change the amount of vig, shut down the maximum bets, i.e. anything to limit you. By the way, this is during the regular season only, no postseason games. And for NBA it is midseason, not season startup:

NFL sides: $5 million/wk
NFL totals: $1 million/wk
NFL moneylines: $100K/wk
NFL teasers: $50K/wk
NFL parlays: $25K/wk

NCAA Foots sides: $1million/wk
NCAA Foots other: $25K-$100K/wk

MLB sides: $500K/wk
MLB totals: $100K/wk

NBA sides: $100K/wk
NBA totals: $50K/wk

NCAA Baskets: $50K/wk

all other sports or betting prop types: $25K-$50K

Gee, I think I could live on that. Too bad the counterparty risk is what it is.

"...if you found a way of consistantly beating a market..."

Sounds like a big IF.

I'm not sure of the exact sum involved, but a couple arb guy's figured a way to beat pari-mutuel wagering to the course of double digit millions of dollars over, I think two gulfstream meets or about 8 months. They had some direct link to the pools and flooded them with arbs at post time. Eventually, Gulfstream elected to shut down their link-up.

TA, are you talking about the North Dakota guy(s), or was this perhaps earlier, before commingling, when tracks offered their own pools on out-of-state races?

Thanks.

N Dak guys.

The brief time when tracks offered their own pools on other's signals was an extremely frustrating period. There was unquesionable value betting the overlays but the handles were so often miniscule it was pointless. I do remember Somethingfabulous the Southern Cali. stakes horse once paying 25/1 while 4/5 in California. Some jurisdictions the take was so exhorbitant and the odds so efficient there would be no overlays. Lastly, the pick3's and pick 6's that can offer life changing payouts were not accessable. Thank god it was only a brief period.
