| BY ROBIN SMITH, Staff Writer Wednesday January 28, 2004 NEWPORT VERMONT A man who neighbors said regularly worked outside without clothes on has been charged with a prohibited act. Patrick Meunier, 37, now of Newport Center, pleaded innocent to the charge Tuesday. He was released and ordered to remain fully clothed while outside. At least four neighbors in Grenier's trailer park in Derby, including a young girl, said he worked and walked around without pants and underwear on last fall, last summer and in the summer of 2002, according to police affidavits. State police Cpl. E.A. Cantwell also said neighbors accused Meunier of masturbating outdoors in full sight of them. Meunier was living in Grenier's trailer park at the time. Knowledge of the incidents came to police after a woman clerk at the nearby Exxon service station on Route 5 found a Polaroid photograph of a semi-naked aroused man on the windshield of her vehicle. Rebecca Roman did not know who was in the picture, she told Cantwell, but she suspected Meunier, who had tried to pursue a sexual relationship with her, Cantwell said. Meanwhile, a woman from the park complained about her phone line being cut and her ex-boyfriend Meunier stealing her gasoline cap from her vehicle. During the interview, Cantwell said Lucille Letourneau told of Meunier's habit of being naked outside, and pride in his physical attributes. She was able to identify Meunier from the Polaroid, Cantwell said. In an interview on Nov. 28, Cantwell said Meunier showed him a copy of "Vermont Unveiled" in a 1996 edition of Naturist Life International. "He 'schooled' me in case law surrounding the issue," Cantwell said in his affidavit. He was released and ordered not to harass his neighbors. |
