| P. Diddy's ex wants to level the playing field. Misa Hylton-Brim, who gave birth to Sean Combs' first son Justin in 1994, wants the hip-hop mogul to step up his monthly child support payments to about $30,000, on par with what he pays the mother of his younger son. The fashion stylist testified Tuesday in Family Court in New Rochelle, New York, that she gets about $5,000 per month to raise their son, while Diddy pays out close to $30,000 to on-again, off-again gal-pal Kim Porter, who's the mother to six-year-old Christian. "It hurts deeply," Hylton-Brim told the New York Post. "This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I'm very sad. I wouldn't have ever imagined it would have come to this. Diddy didn't appear in court. The onetime Mrs. Combs slapped the "Shake Your Tailfeather" singer with a child support suit last fall around the time he raised more than $2 million for children's charities by running in the New York City marathon. But Hylton-Brim said Diddy's openhandedness doesn't always extend to his own family. "The perception Sean projects outside the courtroom is quite different from the truth," she told the Post. "He wants the public to have a perception of him, but the reality is that I'm here asking for money. "Kim had to go to the courts, too. He just didn't offer it," she added. Porter sued Diddy two years ago to have him formally declared the father of little Christian. Puffy eventually settled the paternity suit and was granted joint custody, agreeing to pay child support until the boy turns 21. Hylton-Brim, who has sole custody of Justin, reached her initial settlement with the entertainer back in 1996 when it was apparently possible to raise a child on $5,000 a month. Now, her attorney Brett Kimmel says she needs the extra money to meet rising expenses, including private school tuition, a full-time nanny and 'round-the-clock security. "The law states that the only way to determine the child's reasonable needs is by understanding the resources of the parties involved," Kimmel said. "This child's needs specifically relate to his father being who he is." Tell us about it, Cristal doesn't come cheap. Problem is, Hylton-Brim's legal team has had a hard time tracking down the Bad Boy CEO's financial stats to determine just what kind of resources are available. The music man, who was named one of Fortune magazine's 40 richest people under age 40 in 2002, was ordered to cough up his financial data to Hylton-Brim's attorneys last November but has reportedly been less than forthcoming. The trial is due to resume February 6. Diddy could be very busy that month as rehearsals are scheduled to start on the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun. The multihyphenate superstar is hoping to make his Broadway debut this April in the lead role of Walter Lee Younger. |
