Default Els and Singh - gone?

Is it too early to say the big easy and VJ are gone (best days are behind them) and they will not be multiple winners yearly on the PGA tour.

I still hold out some hope on VJ if he ever gets his confidence back with the putter but Ernie has looked distinctly average to me in recent months.

I think Ernie is gone. For at least the next two years. I really believe that his Open loss to Todd Hamilton (who will never ever do anything himself again- like Curtis) was the last straw. He had so many near misses. Then he gets hurt. Meanwhile since he has been off form Tiger has gotten better, Phil significantly better, plus you have the hungry young guns.

VJ is a more complicated one. I am shocked at how poorly he has played lately. Cant all be blamed on the putter. His ball striking is way off. Not ready to write him off but think his days of winning majors could be gone. Maybe he can win one more but thats it.

The way I see it is that Els is way off form and doesn't seem to care. His injury and his travel commitments make it hard for him to compete with the new style pros. Vijay, I believe, is a simple matter of age getting to him. It was bound to happen sooner or later, it looks like sooner. Plus his love of the buck, "consumate professional", means he will not take necessary chances to win IF it means it might cost him significant money.

The "Big 5" is now the "Big 2", just as Buzz indicated right after the Masters. Goosen has dropped into the "a little better than average, on certain types of courses", catagory. So he's not a threat most weeks.

You can put Couples, Love3, and Olin Browne in the might never win again brigade in my opinion. But their big names and reps make it possible to fade them and Vijay and Els at really favorable prices. I have been doing exactly that, a lot this year, and it shows on the bottom line.

I hate using this term, but the squares still bet 'em up, just like they were playing 5 years ago, and go down in flames most often. I will say, Couples dented me up pretty good at the Masters, but now he's back to normal, exercise rounds. I can't figure Love3, I have no idea what he's doing week in week out, but it's paying off going against him.

There's other guys, Faxon, Mediate, Gamez, for example that fall into the too old, too complacent, I just need a payday, group.

Any of these guys could win again, just like the blind squirrel, but their heyday is over, just believe me on this.

i love the term payday group - thats exactly how i've always seen golf.

My group typically has been : woods, garcia, k.perry, toms, mickleson , singh and occasionals that may be favoured by course/conditions etc though i've really backed off golf betting this year as soem of my my payday players have looked as they have lost it.
