Default WGC--Match Play---Bracket Madness

Love the bracket style:

Round 1

Jiminez +119
Elkington +133
Oberholser +128---Mr. California will take a stab with him. Kid plays great on those greens.

Default RE:WGC--Match Play---Bracket Madness

This is my second favorite tournament to bet. Matchplay is a different animal altogether. Guys who take doubles and triples pretty regularly, (Daly, Couples), all of a sudden look a lot better. At least better than their world ranking show.

DiMarco to win 30-1. He loves match play and does it very well. Second last year, and showed well at the cup. Got bombed by Toms in last year's final, but never ever gave up, when most golfers, including Tiger, would have. Golfing Gods.

T. Clark over Ober -132 Clark is just hitting it well, Ober, I think, has shot his wad, after his great win at the Crosby. Withdrew after 3 rounds last week, somethings going on. WSEX

Verplank over Westwood -109 Westwood is not really on my radar, and I don't have much of a feel for him, but Verplank has started this year fairly hot. Pinny

Langer over Els +225 I just don't think Els has it back yet, great odds on Langer, one of my best guys last year. Really, really, live dog here. Golfing Gods

Lonard over Cabrera +125 When I first saw this bet, I thought it was a bad line. Lonard must be favored here, but no. Anyway, I hated him last year, love him this year. Lonard has settled into the PGA very well now. Won more than a few bets for me, I owe him to back him. Pretty confident here, love the odds. Golfing Gods

Golfing Gods has a new owner now, and their image is gaining acclaim. The European golf forums are warming back up to them. Betting with Euros is kinda cool too. I got zero initial bonus last year. and got zero re-up bonus. They must be alright. But don't take my word for it, they're just good for me and my style.

Shingo +134

I'm still waiting for 3 of my outs to post their odds. I will put my plays on these guys at the best price.

Langer over Weir roughly +125
Olgilvy over O'Hern +110
DiMarco over Ober -140
Verplank over Howell -110
Donald over Maruyama -148

Estimated prices based on Pinny and Matchbook average.

Firm it up later.

I got tired of waiting and WSEX didn't have anything good, so I went all Pinny.

Langer +132
Olgilvy +111
DiMarco -130
Verplank -110
Donald -142

I took Howell also. Mick is not going to win this. It's just a matter of who is going to take him out, Howell has the tools. Also have Toms and DiMarco, they should cruise. One more DiMarco win and I'll have to seriously think about hedging.

I'm not too keen on Katayama, or any of the Jap guys for that matter. They all seem like they should be better, but they're just not. I don't know why.

Good luck to us on Friday.

Just kind of grinding a winner out. Need to make a score.

For Saturday AM--

Harrington +103---why he is the dog here I have no idea

Remember we have PM matches as well.

Big Play on Campbell -149---Campbell is playing great---and he is one of the best hot players around---he stays hot. Lehman have to question his stamina--he is tough as nails but it has already been a long week of golf for him. I really like Campbell to lay it on him this morning.

I don't know why Harrington is the dog here either, but I took him at +110 @ matchbook. He's a lot lower now everywhere.

The lean on Lehman is---very good golfer, esp. for an old guy. CANNOT PUT 4 GOOD ROUNDS TOGETHER. He has 3 good ones in a row. I like the call, but I'm laying off this one

Also took Howell -130. I think he's a bunch better than Olgilvy, in the short game area in particular. Pinny

Goosen- Johnson, another layoff. If I had to bet, I'd take Zach and the +170.

I will take Howell too--think he is too good and am glad you like it. I want action on all of these matches.

I say this all the time but at what point does Goosen become the best player in the world. Zack is playing good but Retief just wears him down here.

I made another huge play (my biggest of the day) on Retief Goosen. Yeah I love dogs but Retief is just unflappable.

A couple of random thoughts on the QFs:

The right knock on Lehman isn't that he can't string four rounds together, I think, but that he's TOO consistent to win a stroke-play tournament. Not an issue in matchplay, obviously. He's been goofily underpriced at times this week - he got up to +182 at Pinnacle this AM vs Toms - but I pass this time unless he gets up around +150.

As for David Howell, he's is a lot better than he was two years ago, but he's still another Eurotour guy who'd have been a legitimate 'dog this week to Carl Pettersson, Rod Pampling... or any of a dozen other fairly anonymous US Tour-based guys. He also played a fairly junky round today, from what I saw. Mickelson was grossly underbet, and had a much higher-equity round, despite some lame shots coming in. That +135 on Ogilvy v Howell at Pinnacle early on tonight was shocking - Matchbook never got anywhere near that high.

I think Love should be a solid -115 favorite over Harrington right now. In August, or in Florida, I'd probably price it differently. It's hard to overstate just what a mediocre year Padraig had in the US last year, even relative to Love.

The price on Retief v Zach Johnson looks about right. Surprising. Thought we might see Goose -185.

I truly enjoyed this tournament. Bet more money on this, than any other golf event, my entire life. After all the smoke cleared, I found I went 9-9. Clawed out a small profit, less than 50 bucks, but it was fun. I love this matchplay format, I want more of it, a lot more.

There were no real surprises for me, I knew Els wasn't going to go past the first round. I knew Mick would get bored half way through. I knew Vijay isn't the same player he was last year. I knew Woods was still hurting from the flu, and I feel he really isn't all that hot for golf right now. I believe Tiger would like nothing better than a few years sabbatical. And I knew Goosen would try really hard and not win.

Is matchplay a good measure of who's the best golfer? No way. In medal play, the top 5 players can have a bad round and still win going away. Not gonna happen in match. Average Joe-blow weekend golfer plays match every week, he's comfortable with the format. I think the TV ratings will prove that out.

On to next week, GL
