Default BRITISH OPEN>>Dying to see the boys play St. Andrews.

I love St. Andrews- should be a great week. Nicklaus saying goodbye. Alot of these European guys look like they are in top form to win the Open Championship-- Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood are two that seem to be in top form for this event. M.A. Jiminez is another that looks sharp- just wonder if his game can hold up for 4 rounds.

I am also going to back Angel Cabrera he is in great form and maybe he can pull the upset.

Will definitely look to back Westwood, Clarke and Jiminez and probably Cabrera. Will try to play against Sergio, Adam Scott (though Sergio scares the shxt out of me at this golf course).

For the US guys they will be lead by Tiger- he fits the course perfectly. I don't like Mickelson all that much here but who knows. Justin Leonard is so tough and loves this style of golf- his ball flight is perfect for this style of golf.

Retief's blow up in the US Open and his lackluster enthusiasm at Loch Lomond makes me wonder.

Ernie Els could have a good tourney but I think I will look elsewhere.

Vijay Singh- think he is sitting on the big week. Last year he was comprimised because he played in the US to defend at the John Deere and felt like he had a commitment (why guys don't like Vijay just amazes me, he is really good for the game right now). Of the big 4 I like Vijay the best.

Lets hear what everybody else is doing.

Default RE:BRITISH OPEN>>Dying to see the boys play St. Andrews.

I see we're on the same page here at the Open. I capped this a month ago and then again today. Came up with the same list both times. The big four are not so big this year. Once spring hit full on, they haven't done all that much. Woods is very good, not excellent, he's out, short odds. Mick is just awful in Europe, he likes it, but doesn't win, he's out too. Els, hells belles, he doesn't have his head screwed on this year. I think he's getting a dose of the mid-life's. "Is this all there is?" Geez, what a goofball. Goosen was running with the backmarkers, now he is a backmarker.

These are my picks for the British. I might bet just one, some, or all of them, depending on price. In order of preferance.

Justin Leonard, 33, in his prime and 2 time winner this year. Knows how to win.
Darrin Clarke, 36, Knows the lay of the land, plays majors well, tad bit rusty.
Kenny Perry, 45, pretty old, but young enough to win twice this year. Plays better on Sat. and Sun. the opposite of 95% of the other players.
Lee Westwood, 32, prime, only missed 1 cut all year, tends to not play well in the majors. I like him anyway.

More later, and I will take my 4 guys in the match-ups. GL

Right now I like Faxon, Sergio and Hamilton on the repeat.

Faxon qualified yesterday, guy loves this tourney and his game has really come around.
Sergio showed me a ton in the US Open. Really hung in there. Think he is ready to break through here
Hamilton- Know the idea of a repeat is crazy but guy's game has come around the last few months, although his putting has been real bad. This guys game is perfect for the Open

I will play others but those are the three definites.

Of the names I like Mickelson the most.

My favourite tournament of the year. Not particularly from a betting point of view but traditionally it is my #1 major.

The course looks to me to suit very long hitters and players who can putt well. Course form is also an advantage. Bearing this in mind I came up with:

Woods, Mickleson, Daly, Harrington and my two longshots Ogilvy and Schwartzel. I ruled out Els and Bjorn on Major mental scar tissue syndrome. Cabrera, Goosen and Scott are possibilities but in my mind not much value.

My plays are:

Woods - 3 pts win @ 3.2/1 - Pinnacle
Mickleson - 2 pts @ 19/1 Betfair after commission
Daly - 1.5 pts @ 132/1 Betfair after commission
Harrington - 1.5 pts @ 31.5/1 Betfair after commission - Pinny don't have him listed!!
Ogilvy - 0.5 pts @ 342/1 Betfair after commission
Schwartzel - 0.5 pts @ 675/1 Betfair after commission

Thats a lots of bets for me but i guess i'm flying high this season and have had a four week break. If any better prices on the above please let me know. The only thing that might change this is if the weather prediction changes for more wind. At present SE winds 9-13 mph predicted all 4 days.

Respect to pinny for being up on the latest news - Harrington out of British Open - Dad died. Got to decide if I play anyone else or keep the same portfolio.

Thanks valueman on the Harrington news- didn't know that.

I love Daly- I hadn't even thought of that one.

Aly- I think Faxon is very interesting- I usually don't like that guy but somebody who can keep it out of the junk and then putt good is interesting.

I am going to go place some outrights right now. Will let you know what I did.

My second favorite tournament of the year, after the US Open. Some say I'm an "off the hook" type of guy, I am, I know I am. I took 3 to win, no place betting, no top ten, no make the cut, just win. I'm going to get match-ups, but they're not listed yet.

Leonard to win 70-1 Pinny
K. Perry to win 81-1 SIA
Clarke to win 41-1 GG

Round 1
Perry over T. Clark and B. Davis coupled with---
L. Donald over Watson and Nicklaus 3.41

Atwal to win in B.C. 41-1 GG

Last week, as you guys know, I had J. L. Lewis to win 81-1 GG equal unit. I had this sucker the whole tournament, in my pocket. I freaked out mid way of the last round 16th hole, and bought 5 contracts for O'Hair at 37. I don't like to hedge, but I felt it coming, good thing. My M/U's went 4-1, O Hair won, making last week the 2nd best week of the year for me. My best week coming just one week earlier. I'm not going to say I'm hot or anything like that. I still need that breakout week.

I've been hearing bad things about GG and payout issues. I don't know, I've never asked for one yet. What's the deal on that concession bet? I don't know what it is.

Funk keeps it in play, and putts pretty good too. His name sucks though, and I knew a chick in high school named Funk. She was pretty, but crazy, in a fun way. More later---GL

Great info on the offical site, with past performances for everyone. It's like they are catering to bettors. I have Els +1200, Singh +1200, Donald +2000, Goosen +2000, Garcia +2500, Love III +3300, Bjorn +5000, Appleby +8000. Horses for the Auld Course. If Tiger wins I'll be pissed. You know that jerk made about $80 mil last year and he still uses Arby's coupons?

Stu - you have some really bad odds for the ones you've selected - betfair if you can get an account is better on all those you selcted by a long way! If you're from the US try golfinggodds and oddschecker.com for the best prices.

Nicklaus over 149 1/2 -125

With the new tees, thicker rough and narrower fairways don't see Jack breaking 75 either day.

Narrow fairways - if you miss one you're likely to hit another. Widest fairways they'll see all year. I see them going low this year - winning score around -12 to -15 unless the wind blows which it isn't forecast to do. As for Nicklaus score he'll miss the cut for sure but the cut will be around 145 so over 149 says he misses by a mile IMO.

I was quoting an article from the Open website where Sergio said if a player misses the fairway by just 3 yards he's going to have a tough time controlling his ball.

Just curious ...how wide are the fairways? Is there a site with that info? Thanks.

Go to opengolf.com and then course then launch the flash version with commentary from Peter Alliss. Cut was at 144 in 2000 and Nicklaus at 150 was the second worst score. Course is longer slightly but equipment/balls better and Nicklaus is 5 years older so maybe you're right but not a confident play in my book. This course is about avoiding the bunkers not the rough unless you get unlucky and land in the gorse stuff.

These are my Match ups---

Clarke over DL3 -118 DL should be a bigger dog, this year isn't last year.
Leonard over Cabrera +101 big battle, Leonard wins, plays wind a lot better.
Perry over Di Marco -137 big chalk, Di Marco has shot his wad for this year.
Perry over Cink -120 is Cink still out there, I thought he must have retired.
Garcia over Goosen +100 they have the wrong guy favored here. See Goose last week for details.

Round 1
Clarke over Els +140 huge overlay, should be about even money.

Definition Backmarker----Auto racing term. One who has no chance to win, runs at or near the back of the pack, gets lapped a few times, and generally gets in everyone's way.

This tourney is historically tough to cap for me - those courses over there seem to bring strange results! Which long odds American no name wins this yr??? LOL

D. Clarke finish under 18.5 position -120 ( playing well since coming back from wife's cancer treatments with a 4th and 2nd in last two weeks on Euro tour and finished 7th here in 2K )
Ben Curtis TO MAKE CUT +260 ( hoping he parlays Western 3rd into at least a respectable tourney - he used a 13th in Western to springboard 2003 win )
Couples TO MAKE CUT -125 ( Could scalp this a bit as MISSES is +160 @carib but I like Freddie's chances as he finished 6th here in 2K )
Maruyama+110ovChoi
Couples-102ovLehman

Hi Buzz, since SportmansGuide bought The Golf Warehouse at least I did'nt
have to run all the merchandise sales @ opengolf.com this year!! What a
hassle that was when IMG owned us. I took Tiger +180 vs. all US players.
GL Give me a call, Toto
