Default The Masters picks and selections thread>>

My favorite tournament of the year by far. The MVP of the tour so far is the weather.

PROFILE OF A MASTERS CHAMPION: It is wierd but it seems to me that the Masters always rewards someone who is having a good year. Look to Phil last year, Mike Weir the year before both players were having very good years and they take home the green jacket. Unfortunately all signs would point to Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods both having very good years, the Masters should reward either one of them. Probably a show down between them would be appropriate.

Olazabal could be a nice play +3500 at Pinnacle

I am going to play Goosen fairly strongly to win. Will look at a few others as fliers, but the Goose will be my primary pick. Guy has everything going for him to win this.

Couple of quick thoughts:

- 35/1 on Ollie is way too short. Betfair was 50-1 earlier this week (and WSEX was 55-1, come to think of it), and that price was a huge pass for me.

- Buzz, didn't you mention something about Watts betting golf? Is that true; and if so, did you mean on-course or 'capping? Weird either way - not least cause he never struck me as having much gamble in him.

- Anyone got any wisdom on the Nicklaus v Duval matchup at WSEX? I could almost make a case for Nicklaus being a favorite, but that just seems intuitively wrong.

- As value propositions, I like Choi at 100s, Tiger at +4.80 or higher, Daly at 400, and Sabbatini at 400+. General pricing looks pretty solid to me, though.

Aly- I like your thought on Goosen and might make him my top play. I really think this is all chalk event.

There is a storm brewing on Mickelson (as discussed in the Mess Hall) I have heard the rumors for about a year that SI was going to do a story on him, exposing him. If it comes out Thursday- which is a good bet since it has made its way to the Mess Hall-you can bank on they are the last to know anything (tongue in cheek). It would kill Mickelson because he has a ton of media obligations- it now turns into comments about the expose.

I can't believe this brings him down but it might. So I may skip the Mickelson betting all together.

I have played:

Goosen To finish in Top 13 at Pinnacle -135 (2 Units)

Rich Beem to make cut Yes -130 at The Greek (1 Units)

Dimarco +105 v. Charles Howell III at The Greek (2 Units)

Darren Clarke +101 v. Jim Furyk (1 Unit) (The Greek)

David Toms +105 v. Adam Scott (1 Unit) (The Greek)

More to come. I haven't made any outright plays but I think I will.

I'd like to short Mickelson this week. Why? Fatigue. Wins the Bell in OT. Settles into Atlanta early this AM. Gets 5 hours sleep tops. Still manages to make 8AM tee time with UNLV alumn(Riley/Scott/Chad) and Rebel phenom Ryan Moore.

FWIW, greens rock hard and nice weather in no gimmee.

I took a price on Adam Scott TWIA.

I think he should be the favorite and it is intuitively correct. I made the correction for them.

Give me Tiger, Vijay, and Toms. Tiger and Vijay always show up for the big ones, and Toms putting should be key this week.

I took Garcia and I took him months ago. He always comes on strong this time of year, and he's needing a major victory right now. I don't like the big four. Mick will come out good, then fade. With all the bs going on, and he just looked spent last Monday. Tiger and Els are in a bit of a slump, they're out, short prices anyway. Goosen is slumping too, but if the greens are hard, as reported, will help him. Vijay, I just never bet on Vijay. I don't like him, root against him, and refuse to bet on someone I want to lose.

Nicklaus will shoot 79-80, and I think that will beat Duval. Small bet here.

Harrington over Goosen +132
Toms over Scott +108
Donald over Zach -117
Weir over Clarke +104
T. Clark over Casey -105

Round #1 Di Marco over Jimenez +120

I'll be checking in on the interactives all week, worked great for me week before last. Grabbed some Funk contracts early and sweated them out to the end. GLTA.

Always enjoy your write-ups Tommy but why this ?<< I just never bet on Vijay. I don't like him, root against him, and refuse to bet on someone I want to lose.>>

I hate Bobby Knight but doesn't deter me from playing TTech. Oh well, it's your call.

God, they are calling for significant t-storms tomorrow. This is just too friggin much!

Going to the well again on Howell III. The local knowledge angle.

Right now Goosen big, Howell III for a flier and looking for one more.

As far as the names I think VJ has a better shot than Els or Tiger. The way Phil has played this year I think he will be in contention all the way. Sergio will have to win a major before I get sucked into him again. I actually like Sergio too. Nothing personal, strictly business.

I hate Tiger, and enjoyed cashing at his expense during his prolonged slump. But you cant ever bring personal into it.

Just took Lee Westwood as my third at 60-1. Know he has blown up a few times recently but certainly has the talent to do it

Ronbets---I hear what you're saying. I can't put my finger on it. I will say this though. I've hated the Dodgers all my life, being from No. Calif. and all, and I bet the hell out of them last year. Hate is too strong of a word, rivals with a capital R is more like it. I have always respected the Dodgers even though I root against them, unless of course I bet them. Who's my favorite team? The one who's playing the Dodgers. Lol.

Vijay is different. No respect as a human, great golfer though. It's an individual sport and all. I will say that often times I change my mind about people, but it takes a lot of years usually. Maybe I will learn to like Vijay someday. Example is Jane Fonda. I hated her for a long time, being a Viet vet and all. Now I no longer dislike her, turns out she was right, just the wrong way to state her position. I don't love her either, and won't buy a ticket to any movie she's in. I will watch and enjoy if on TV.

If rain hits Augusta and softens up the greens, you gotta go with straight hitters and shot makers. I still like Garcia for a sloppy track. He was supposed to be Tiger's competition at one time, be one of the big four. Never materialized. He wins once in awhile, but not often. He's just a journeyman, but a good one. He really tries hard for the majors, you can tell that by watching him. At 33-1 I think it's a value.

If it rains, Goosen stock goes down.

Lotta common ground here------------except I'll never forgive that silver spooned bitch.

Anyway, I played 2 mathups versus Lefty. Tiger vs PM and VJay versus PM.

i played some stuff tonight...

took on interactives Scott @ $3 and Howell @ $2 as longshots (thats all for now)

played the big4 straight -104 vs the field....i figure even if 1 gets in a heads up duel on sunday, i could hedge out if i wanted

took Westwood as the top euro @ 15-1 as no one on that list really scares me....

played Paul Casey -3.5 strokes vs Duval in the 1st round as i think Duval shoots 78-80.....that is more of a joke bet....but i dont even see duval as a professional golfer right now, more of a pro vs amatuer...we will how see it plays out...

Outrights - quarter unit each - plays are just based on value. All very good players that hit the ball relatively accurate (all are top 30 in GIRs), and in the cast of Toms and Cink, both are top 10 in putting...Donald is in there based on his second best scoring average to Mickelson...steadiness pays off this week???

S. Cink +4848
D. Toms +3157
A. Scott +2800
L. Donald +4500

Matchups:

L. Donald over Z. Johnson -115
G. McDowell over R. Allenby +100 (solely based on McDowell's play the last few weeks)
S. Verplank over J. Kelly -118 (Verplank, just real steady in these types of events)
D. Toms over R. Goosen +133 (I played this as I just think this is good value for a very strong player)
A. Scott over P. Harrington -111 (this is a contrarian play in that I am not sure how focused Harrington will be with his sick father on his mind)

Props:

A. Scott to finish 18.5 or better -110
Tiger Woods - Eagle or better - Yes -174 (with the par 5's on this course, a lot of chalk, but I think it is a solid play - this is for 2 units)
