Default Tournament Players Championship@ Sawgrass>>

Will spend some more time this week, with baskets dying down. I haven't done any research yet but think I will start with Ernie Els and Fred Couples as guys that I like this week.

My play this week is Harrington@ 20-1.

This is the 32nd playing of this tournament. Only 21 players average less than par over the entire history, and Padraig is number 1 for his 16 rounds. Woods is number 6. This is a tough track, and the guy on TV yesterday said it would be soft with long, thick rough this week. Driving accuracy and the ability to chop out of the long green will prevail. This isn't a flag hunting course, and your guy can lose strokes as fast or faster than he can make birdies. The par 5's will be crucial. PH played this tourney -8 for the par 5's last year, so did Mick. Harrington tossed off the " can't win in the USA" handle with his win this year. He's pretty hot and confident right now, gearing up for the Masters. Gearing up is not tuning up, he wants to win badly. He has improved every tourney here up to now---T33, T22, T2, and 2. The only place he can go in this progression is win it all. 20-1 is a huge number for this guy, I expect it to go lower, a lot lower.

I won't argue with Els winning, he very well could. I don't see Tiger doing it though. Mick, maybe, he's not better than PH though. Couples is an interesting bet. He's fairly hot right now, but he missed the cut last year. He's played here 22 times, averaging a half shot over par. Won it in 84, backed it up in 96 with another win. I just don't see him winning a third 21 years after his first. That would be unreal.

These guys play poorly here and all missed the cut last year. I will fade them against any able golfer who is not spooked by Sawgrass.

Appleby
Toms
Byrd
Weir---He's cooled off a lot recently
Howell III--- Too close to home, gets distracted
Gamez---This ain't Vegas, plays poorly in the South
Di Marco
Goosen
Couples---Like I said earlier
Herron
Bads---Playing a lot better this year

As usual---GLTA, You will not hear "bogey free" this week.

Great call on Harrington- Stanley had him earlier at 14/1 w/o the big 4, that seems like money.

Good write up tommy jay.

This is a great bet. SIA. Goosen misses the cut---5.00

Goosen has played terrible at Sawgrass. He's played this tournament 6 times, and been cut 5 TIMES. This is how's he's played this track---+5-cut, +8cut, +12cut, -1T14, +1cut, +8cut.

The odds here reflect his world ranking, NOT how well he plays this course. At best, I'd say he's 50-50, and that is generous.

SportsInteraction has a ton of props for this contest. Check them out. I took Toms to miss the cut also, same odds, and he's 4 of 12 for made cuts, missing the last 2.

This Goosen bet probably belongs in the messhall, I don't know. I'm sure there are plenty of marginal golf bettors who would agree with me.

I'm going to go find the M/U's now.

Tommy- Thanks for the SIA tip.

Question- I want to play Toms- I know his record at TPC, but his form is awesome and he has been injured the last two years, do you think the missed cuts speak to his injury or his dislike for TPC??

Buzz--I actually forgot that Toms said he was injured the last 2 years. There's so much to remember, and so many guys.

Here's how I see Toms. He is the definition of HOT. Made all 7 cuts for this year, banking 2.2 mil. already, with the last 4---T4, 1, 5, 5. Drives about 270 something with 69% accuracy. That's very good. 7th in putting. That's the good news.

The bad news---This one tourney, Sawgrass, has him a little spooked. It doesn't give him the yips, but there's some reason to not do well here. He's coming off a lay-off, and doesn't do as well, after vacation. His small size hampers him here, a couple of bad hacks out of the rough, and injuries happen. 32% sand saves here won't work, he will be on the beach a lot. 69% in the fairway means 31% in the rough. Figure about 1/3 of those are bogeys or worse. He's 38YO, and 160 pounds. Extra club on every shot. His great putting is nullified if not on the green.

Toms is one of my favorite players, he's won me a ton of money. Pressed for my take, I'd say this. If he makes the cut, he very well could, maybe should win. I'll be looking at him in the interactives. Toms is the only player I can think of right now who scores an average of 68, ALL FOUR ROUNDS. Most players do better or worse as the tourney progresses. Most actually worse. Toms is steady, reminds me of Gene "The Machine" Littler.

Now, I wish I hadn't made that bet on Toms. Too late. I didn't look at everything, and forgot about the injuries. I hope this analysis helps in some way. I'm no expert, just been around a long time.

I bet into the CRIS 30 cent lines because I have money there.

I took Toms +100 over Goosen.

Aly- I took Els as my big play and also took DiMarco. I honestly think DiMarco will win The Masters.

Took a couple of weeks off as I have been distracted with work and hoops. Plus, I typically do not do very well in the first couple of tourneys on the East Coast.

My winners - 1/4 unit each:

E. Els +1200 (WWTS)
S. Garcia +4000 (5Dimes)
K. Perry +4000 (SportingbetUSA)
S. Cink +5500 (WWTS)

Two flyers on (lunch money play as Buzz says)

KJ Choi +8500 (WWTS)
F. Couples +12452 (Pinny)

Matchups - typically look for accurate drivers, good GIR percentage, and decent putter:

D. Toms +110 over R. Goosen (5Dimes)
F. Couples +100 over T. Lehman (5 Dimes)
KJ Choi -105 over S. Maruyama (Pinny)
E. Els +108 over V. Singh (Pinny)
P. Harrington -105 over R. Goosen (SportingbetUSA)
A. Scott -120 over S. Appleby (Pinny)
Z. Johnson -104 over L. Donald (Pinny)
Z. Johnson -123 over C. Howell III (Pinny)

Though it is the first trip for Johnson, I am banking on the fact that he does not have any "deamons" already in his head. He is in the top 20 in driving accuracy and GIRs...I think there is good value in those matchups.

GL to us golf junkies!

Not a good start for us Buzz. Not giving up yet, especially on Els. Expect the course to play much tougher tomorrow.

Grabbed some Donald interactives.

Took Craig Parry over Adam Scott at +168 overnight at Pinny. When he gets hot, he plays well. Shot -4 first day, so that's a great price I think.

Hey guys,

been away a few weeks..................whats the deal with the weather and golf tourneys these times!!

Almost every week and its getting very annoying.

Btw, didn't get to post it pre-tourny I know but I think Paddy is the man here provided he can get his head together while dealing with home issues.

Tony---It's not a no-play, they are on for tomorrow or whenever they play the 2nd round.

I agree DLG. Rain and weather delays foul everything up. It screws up my handicapping, and the books can't stay on top of it. I can't even get a bet down for the 2nd round.

Round 1 was a good one for me. My m/u guys are looking good, and Harrington can win this thing. Now if Goosen would just flunk out, everything would be ferfect.
