Default Handicapping players to win

Here's my question. Do any of you posters have any angle or thoughts on how to handicap a golfer to win the tournament outright? I have a few ideas but they seem pretty elementary. I ask because a lot of books are using a 30 cent line on match-ups and if they continue to get beat the line may get wider. Most places use 40 cents for football props and it would kill golf wagerring if books started equating golf match-ups to prop betting. So, I'm trying to come up with some kind of numerical measurement for outright winners. But up until now I'm still just TRYING! In referrance to Namathfans suggestion on tour-tips, (in an earlier reply) I noticed that tourtips does a lot of damage with outright winners. As a matter of fact, over his lifetime PGA Tour performance, he is better with outright winners 2 to 1 compared to straight match-ups! I would really appreciate your input. I will be back to share my ideas.

I really like the outrights and a couple of nice hits can get you through the year.

I got my ass kicked in the US Open but had 20 buck on Furyk to win which made me a nice profit.

In order to be successful I think you have to play a lot of players, I think the majors are more handicappable than the other events. I try to find 7-12 good players that I think have a chance to win and then determine some odds of those players.

I make the bet a unit. So Player A may get .2 of the unit, Player B,C,D,E,F get .1 of the unit, Player G,H,I, J get .06

On majors I bet a 2-5 units on others I bet 1-2 units.

The match ups are very tough right now, so its good to get a little action on each tournament and have a chance.

I really think if you can be successful at these kind of bets you have a nice shot at making a score.

I'd rather have 10 bucks on Hank Kuehne at 80/1 than a bunch of these match up bets because he will win something in the next couple of weeks.

Some good insite Buzz. And I too, think the majors are easier to handicap. The players seem to hold truer to form. With the exception of the Britsh Open, which I won't bet. Way too much of a crap shoot!! The Open is for another thread. Back to the topic. One question, do you certain criteria that determines how much of a unit you bet on a player. For example, does the guy 10/1 get .6 units and the 30/1 get .2 units. I ask because that's how I have been betting outright winners. I just wonder if I should stay with a flat amount. Well, thanks for the input.

I do it the wrong way I just put more on gut feelings.

This week in the PGA I will probably play the following players K. Perry, J. Furyk, K.J. Choi, C. Howell, R. Goosen, N. Price, V. Singh. I will probably put more money on Perry because it seems to me he would be a logical champion. I can see K. Perry winning this more than I can C. Howell or K. J. Choi so they will be my minimum bets.

Will be on Furyk also. Hopefulyy Tiger holds form of never having won a major on a par 70 course. I think Tiger in general does not fare as well on the par 70's major or not.
