RE: Looking for help and info, Dominican Republic thehippy,
I can't add a lot here, but as Maximo indicated there is a new government in DR, which should be generally good for businesses. The peso has appreciated from 46-47 to 39 to the USD in the hopes that the IMF will strike a deal with the new government to refinance the country's massive foreign debt. So it will not be as cheap relative to the dollar to operate there. Power outages have also decreased substantially, which is very good.
Still, have to be careful in any of these places. I hate to say it in the wake of the BetPanama disaster, but Panama probably is the best in the region from a government stability standpoint, and business infrastructure is a lot better too. But if your investors want the operation close by, DR fits the bill better that way, for sure. |
