"so he raises again and I am sitting on AK so I reraise (but only about 1/6 of my stack)"

I'm not sure what the pot is after all this because you didn't specify the blinds/antes, or whether "1/6" of your stack includes them and/or his initial raise, but ....figuring that you're getting about 8/5, you need about 38% equity against his range.

You didn't mention if your AK was suited, so I'll assume not.

If my assumptions are correct, you'd have to put him on a top 3% range to make a fold correct here. That means, did you read him for a range looser than AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AKs, AK? If so, your call was correct. But did you take the time to read him THAT HAND, or did you just auto-pilot insta-call on the situation (aggro CL in position)?

If the latter, then you (and I when making the same mistake) should kick yourself for not making a better read. But if you DID take the time to read him, and read him wrong (or, as some would put it, "right" considering that AA was part of the range you assigned him), then peace, bro. Poker sucks except when it doesn't.
