<< Kerry Wood had a bad inning. >>

Correction, Kerry Woods was completely out of gas because Dusty the Genius had him throw 130 pitches in his each of last 2 starts in steaming hot weather. I do realize there were 10 days between these two starts but the excessive number of pitches these starters have been asked to deliver since the very beginning of the season is absurd. Prior has had to go on the DL and I am sure he won't be the last.

Prior going on the DL had nothing to do with the number of pitches he's thrown. He had a violent collision running the bases. I'm not a big pitch count person myself. There was no way Dusty could take Wood out of that 1-0 game he won the way he was throwing. I don't think pitch counts had anything to do with this but I guess there's no way to prove it one way or the other. However, other than Prior going on the DL recently which should be short, which again had nothing to do with pitch counts, no Cubs starter has missed any start all year and Wood and Prior have been very effective. It was just one of those innings for Wood. Where Dusty went wrong was just today leaving him in too long, but not in the past.
