Hi Pancho  - It all depends on the relationships I have with the books.  Our accounts departments can give you a list of books - I don't have it in front of me.

Spiros, I have two gripes...:) And 2 is far less than any other book:) One of them is about you guys always switching the game times from eastern to central......from the players stand point, is it possible that you can keep us on Eastern time all year long or even better give us the choice of what time zone we would like to see the games posted as.   Hell if SIA can do that, I am sure The Olympic can too?:)   Thanks for participating tonight!!

thegreek (Nov 18, 2003 8:58:17 PM)

Hi Lv711 - Thanks for your comment - right now our web site lists games in local time which does not follow daylight savings time.  We will look into improving this in the future.

Also how can we prevent books from going BK with players postup $? Are the players at fault ? What can we as players do to stop this thievery. Also Thanks for taking the time to be here.

BBuster - What is happening is what I predicted.  The industry is going through consolodation and I forsee that there will be two to three dozen big books.  We really can't prevent books from going bankrupt like any other business - however it is important to know who is the person behind the book rather than just playing with unknown's.

Interested in NASCAR. How much handle does it get. Do you get more on the win or matchups? Is NASCAR a net winner? Does Olympic outsource for their lines or have an inhouse expert?

Betting Exchanges will always be problematic for US sports because our juice is so low already.  Betfair is the most successful exchange, and they charge 5%.  None of us would put up with even half that in effective juice.  MLB, for a shopper, is already close to 0% juice.

Thanks, Doc.  I think the 121bets failure killed the ex idea for US sports.  Even Tradesports is struggling.  We have a fairly fluid and low-hold market.  Soccer and horse racing didn't, which is why they were so subject to losing business.

halifax  you're up

Halifax (Nov 18, 2003 9:50:38 PM)

1. Have you noticed any decrease in volume of customers as a result of the new / proposed US laws, and/or as a result of the newfound difficulty of transferring money to offshore books ?  This is one of my biggest concerns with respect to the industry as a whole, moreso even than bonuses.                                                                                                                                    2.  Roughly, what percentage of your players fund their accounts with Neteller, and has this percentage increased over the last year ?

Halifax - we have not seen a decrease in volume, but we feel that business growth could be much larger...  As far as NETeller we have really pushed this transfer method this year and have seen it grow percentage wise compared to our other transfer methods.

hockeyguru (Nov 18, 2003 10:08:18 PM)

Hello Spiros,

Thanks for taking the time with us.

My first question relates to the kind of character that many of the offshore book owners possess. We hear stories all the time about illicit monies being used to fund sportbooks, stories about owners with shady histories (aside from the whole gambling/USA issue), massive monies being spent on other activities- drugs, booze, women (not that there's anything wrong with that- as long as it not post up money- which it seems to be far too often).

What I want to know from you is simple. I want the name of 2-3 books that you know have owners who are solid as can be, who made their money through legal ventures, who are businessmen and not party animals, who run a tight ship and who know how to take care of the bottom line.

In short, I'm saying that from a business plan  perspective I can almost always tell how a book is doing but I know very little about the men behind the books. So, if you could help us out and give us the 2-3 names that you respect in this industr

Hi Spiro. My question is what is the amount of the biggest single parlay won at Olympic? And how much was bet and how many teams? I want to know the number I have to beat. :-) Also, as a bonus. What is the biggest single parlay won at ANY online sportsbook EVER?

CHATMASTER (Nov 18, 2003 10:16:54 PM)

cerberus (Nov 18, 2003 10:17:00 PM)

Spiros, I love all the props that you offer. Some books hate it when you bet their props. Do you still make enough money, or at least break even with your prop offerings to never consider not offering them anymore? The props make your book unique, and hopefully they will always be a staple at your sportsbook.

thanks for your time Greek

lurkerforages (Nov 18, 2003 10:19:29 PM)

pokerjoe (Nov 18, 2003 10:22:13 PM)

Wagerstreet Bob, first let me say that I admire some things about your shop. But I disagree with limit cuts.  Sharp bettors are not your enemy.  If I ran a book, I'd have a program which tracked my player's EV, and then figured that into the calculation for balancing my action.  Sharp players could be your goldmine.  But also, I think too many books assume that just because someone's been winning that they're sharp, and not merely a fish on a heater.  However, inasmuch as I'd want to control some player's actions, it would be the steamchasers.  But I wouldn't boot them.  Simply keep smaller limits, but allow re-hits.  I just find booting or cripple-limiting to be in poor form.  If bookies want their players to have some gambler's honor, they should have some themselves.

PANCHO_SANZA (Nov 18, 2003 10:22:35 PM)

my question wasnt answered...

Spiros,

How many players have you cut limits to at your book? Also, when you limit them, is it across the board or  on selected sports?

kosar (Nov 18, 2003 10:28:43 PM)

smoothie- no shit...I've been distracted with 'the real world' and now 'rich girls'

TTinCO (Nov 18, 2003 10:28:57 PM)

Bob, I never got stiffed by GA either......sometimes I learn from the negative experiences of others without having to deal with it myself.

hockeyguru (Nov 18, 2003 10:29:06 PM)

have you ever had to cut limits of someone who wasn't strictly chasing steam?

you will have to ask russ  i cant answer that question smoothie

thegreek (Nov 18, 2003 10:29:15 PM)

buckeye - we do follow standard parlay odds, and parlays are calculated at true odds when moneylines are other than -110.

Wagerstreet_Bob (Nov 18, 2003 10:29:29 PM)

ttinco - thats why you're a champ i guess congrats

thegreek (Nov 18, 2003 10:31:15 PM)

HG - I will only cut limits on events that I feel lines are weak (props, quarters, etc.)  On the games themselves, indivduals do not get cut - and especially the day of the game limits can be very high.

buckeye (Nov 18, 2003 10:31:22 PM)

bailout I meant. it was appreciated

miaplus3 (Nov 18, 2003 10:31:28 PM)
